Emmerdale Marlon and Laurel are hiding something big – now fans have ‘worked out’ their secret in a game-changing twist
Emmerdale fans are certain they ‘know’ what Marlon Dingle and Laurel Thomas are hiding – but it’s not an affair.
Over in the Dales recently, Marlon’s (Mark Charnock) daughter April (Amelia Flanagan) mysteriously vanished – with the youngster last seen getting in a strange car driven by a mysterious individual.
April’s disappearance came following a fraught period in her relationship with Marlon after she found out the truth about her mum Donna’s (Verity Rushworth) death. April then turned to booze and drugs, before going missing.
Since then, Marlon has been left reeling, determined to try and find out where April is. However, during Wednesday’s episode (January 1) the soap aired a huge twist involving Marlon and Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy).
An officer told Marlon that April had uploaded videos online, in which she suspected that he was having an affair with Laurel. Although Marlon denied the allegation, he looked rather sheepish.
The officer then mentioned April had seen some incriminating messages between the pair – but Marlon didn’t seem to know anything. He then pleaded with the officer not to tell his wife Rhona (Zoe Henry) – and she agreed, for the time being.
Marlon began to spiral and he contacted Laurel to meet. He revealed to Laurel that the police had seen the texts – leaving Laurel startled. She then insisted that the truth couldn’t come out as she could now “lose everything”.
Now, while the soap has appeared to hint at a shock affair between Laurel and Marlon, fans are certain it is merely a “red herring”. Over on an Emmerdale Facebook fan page one person mused: “I don’t think Marlon and Laurel are having an affair.
“I think whatever messages they sent could have been read in that way but that wasn’t the intention. I think it’s a red herring,” they added.
In the comments section, other people shared their thoughts, with plenty thinking the secret could be that Laurel has broken her sobriety.
Someone penned: “Laurel said she could lose everything if it comes out. Could it be her sobriety was at risk or she had a drink?”
A third chimed in: “Maybe she’s had a drink again. Hope it’s not an affair or that, to be honest.” Another agreed: “I wonder if she got drunk and texted/rang Marlon and he’s been supporting her.
“And that’s what all the texts were about, but they were talking in code so it looked like an affair to April and that’s why Laurel said she’d lose everything if her family found out.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
