Cain Dingle is a beloved character on Emmerdale, but the villager could be set for a shock exit after more than decades on the soap
Emmerdale fans reckon a Cain Dingle exit is on the cards.
The soap legend, played by Jeff Hordley, made his debut way back in 2000. And it didn’t take him long to become one of the soap’s iconic and beloved characters.
Over the years, he’s been involved in several big storylines too – from family drama to murder, his time in the Dales has not been short of drama. That’s especially true at the moment, as this week, he shocked fans when he cheated on wife Moira (Natalie J Robb), during her brain tumour surgery.
Fans will recall Moira was diagnosed with of a meningioma brain tumour earlier this year. Husband Cain (Jeff Hordley) has since been struggling with the news, and during Wednesday’s emotional episode (November 20) he spiralled out of control, as Moira had surgery.
After downing a bottle of booze, he came face to face with Jimmy King (Nick Miles) – and the pair came to blows, with Jimmy claiming that Belle (Eden Taylor-Draper) was lying about Tom (James Chase) abusing her.
Cain then attacked him, leaving Jimmy battered and bloodied. However, things soon took a more dramatic turn when later on, Cain was in the garage when Ruby (Beth Cordingly) arrived, who was shocked to see her brother-in-law after thinking he would be at the hospital with Moira.
“Why you in my garage”, Cain queried as she replied: “Someone I wasn’t bothered about seeing.” The pair had a brief exchange of words before they kissed passionately.
In another scene, Cain and Ruby were seen fixing their clothes signalling they had taken their moment of passion further. And things took a more dramatic turn during Thursday’s instalment (November 21).
Racked with guilt, Cain went and visited Moira following her operation – which was successful. However, due to Nicola urging Jimmy to call the police on Cain, the cops later showed up at hospital and arrested him.
He was taken in for questioning over the assault and refrained from answering any questions, before being released. Now, following Cain’s arrest fans fear this could end up with the villager getting sent to prison for a long time.
On an Emmerdale Facebook fan page, one person said: “Seriously!!! For the police to arrest Cain , when the patient Moira just had a major surgery!!!! That does not happen in real life!!!!.”
Other viewers in the comments section then shared their theory that Cain would be quitting the village. A soap fan wrote: “I can’t help but feel they setting up an exit for Cain? First sleeping with Ruby and now getting arrested.” Someone else wrote: “They could be.” A third penned: “It’s going to take a lot to redeem him in my opinion.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
