Emmerdale fans think that some big hints in a recent episode may confirm which character is being killed off on the ITV soap, after Cain Dingle was shown at a future funeral

There could be more heartache for the Dingle family on Emmerdale this year, if a major hint is anything to go by.

Viewers think recent episodes have confirmed a tragic death for one character, after a flashforward revealed a funeral was being filmed. Cain Dingle was the only character to feature in the future scene, while it’s not confirmed when this will air.

Cain was shown sobbing and also looking guilty as he broke down at a mystery character’s graveside, while we did not see who the headstone was for. It looked like a recent burial due to the raised earth and the fresh flowers beside it.

Cain was also wearing a suit and appeared grief-stricken, and so it seems the funeral has just taken place. The flowers looked like they spelled something out but there was no way of telling what they said.

The fact that Cain is so emotional at the grave has left fans fearing the worst for a number of his relatives, including his wife Moira Dingle. Now, a scene on Thursday with his granddaughter Sarah Sugden has left viewers fearing the 19 year old could be set for a tragic twist.

Sarah has battled illness most of her life, being diagnosed with Fanconi Anaemia as a child with her needing a bone marrow transplant. Sarah developed leukaemia following the former diagnosis, but after treatment she recovered.

A few years later she was diagnosed with throat cancer, before her health took another turn for the worse not long afterwards when she was diagnosed with heart failure. Sarah received a heart transplant when she was a young teen and since then, there’s often been scenes where she’s shared her fears about her future and not getting to live a full life.

In her latest hospital dash she was diagnosed with alcohol poisoning after hitting the booze. It’s the second time this year she’s turned to alcohol, with her grandparents Cain and Charity Dingle left concerned for her.

In the special A&E episode Sarah was advised things could have been a lot more serious for her, repeatedly told she could have been very ill. She was given a lecture from multiple people, while also reminded numerous times about her health conditions and how she needs to be more careful.

Cain then asked his granddaughter: “Should I be worried?” to which she suggested no. But fans can’t help but wonder if all of the scenes combined might be what leads to the mystery funeral airing later in the year, and a heartbreaking death for Sarah.

One viewer suggested: “It could’ve been Sarah’s Grave instead of Moira’s on the Flashforward.” Another fan said: “My out on a limb prediction is Sarah is going to die,” as a third posted: “I think Sarah or Moira is gonna get killed off.”

A further theory read: “I still think that Sarah could be the one Cain is in the flashback at the graveside. It’s so random that she has not been on scene for ages, then all of a sudden she is drinking to block out pain.” Another theory suggested: “I have a feeling it’s Debbie, but it could be Sarah. Cain looks so distraught only possibility for me.”
