Emmerdale fans make ‘gutted’ observation before soap scoops huge National Television Award win

Fans were supporting one of the ITV soap’s stars before an array of the Dales favourites took to the stage

Emmerdale fans were left worried for one of the show’s stars after they seemed ‘gutted’ during the National Television Awards. The ITV soap scooped one of the top gongs at the star-studded ceremony on Wednesday night (September 11).

An array of the Dales’ biggest stars descended onto the stage when the soap picked up the main Serial Drama award this year, fending off competition from Coronation Street, Casualty, EastEnders and Hollyoaks.

Collecting the award, Matty Barton star Ash Palmisciano said: “We just want to thank our audience – without you this show would not exist. We are so grateful to you, and we know that some of you have watched us since the very beginning.

“No matter what’s going on in your life, we’ve been there. And we promise you that we will continue to make fantastic television, we will continue to tell the stories that resonate with you, and we will continue to tell the stories that matter.”

But earlier in the night, Emmerdale’s Belle King actress Eden Taylor-Draper just missed out on a solo award in the Serial Drama Performance category.

The talented star earned her nomination following a difficult 12 months for her on-screen alter-ego who has been emotionally and physically abused by her new husband Tom King.

In the end, the NTA went to Corrie’s Peter Ash. As he collected the awards, Peter said it was an “amazing way” to end his time on the soap opera. His heartbreaking exit storyline saw his character Paul Foreman’s health deteriorate as he battled with motor neurone disease (MND), before dying from the disease in tear-jerking scenes this week

Taking to social media after Peter’s win, Emmerdale fans expressed their concern for Eden. @creativemetalhead said: “Eden looked gutted, she totally deserved that award as well.” @irenesollinger51 commented: “I can’t believe Eden didn’t win the award, her portrayal of Belle has been absolutely amazing it brought tears to my eyes.”
