Emmerdale fans have only just realised the actress who plays Lisa Dingle, Jane Cox, has a completely different voice
Emmerdale fans were left utterly astonished upon hearing the real voice of a Dingle family icon for the very first time.
Actress Jane Cox, who became a household name as the Dingle matriarch Lisa, first appeared on the scene in 1996. Renowned for her warmth and fortitude, particularly when dealing with challenging circumstances, Lisa quickly rose to become one of the soap’s most cherished and memorable characters.
Lisa was central to numerous major storylines, including her beloved marriage to Zak (played by Steve Halliwell) and giving birth on Christmas Day in 1998. Her life in the Dales was certainly filled with excitement and turmoil.
The marriage between Lisa and Zak weathered many storms, but Zak’s affair with Joanie Wright (portrayed by Denise Black) brought their union to a breaking point. Fans were overjoyed when the couple eventually found their way back to each other.
In 2019, Jane Cox made the decision to retire Lisa Dingle’s character and bid farewell to Emmerdale. At that time, Jane expressed her desire to “do different things” as the reason for her departure, reports Leicestershire Live.
In a heart-wrenching exit, Lisa succumbed to a terminal heart condition known as amyloid on her wedding day to Zak, leaving viewers in tears. However, it’s not just on-screen where Jane has made an impact. Recently, fans were taken aback when they heard Jane’s actual voice for the first time during a YouTube interview.
One fan commented in surprise: “I’ve been watching for years and didn’t realise how different Lisa sounds!”. Someone else added to the conversation, commenting: “Omg she has a posh accent.” A third person expressed their surprise as well, stating: “WOW Jane sounds so different.”
Another fan agreed with the sentiment, saying: “She always did a brilliant accent and was one of the original besties!” Then, a fifth individual observed: “Jane’s accent is sooo different than Lisa’s.”
After her official departure from the show in October 2019, Jane has shifted gears in her career path, diving into the study of reflexology. In a chat with Inside Soap, Jane opened up about how acting is still in the cards for her, but for now, she’s embracing a more relaxed pace of life. “I’m available for acting roles, but at the moment I’m just chilling which is a luxury for me,” she revealed.
Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
