Emmerdale fans are convinced that the ITV soap has ‘confirmed’ that two characters will be killed off in a heartbreaking twist
Emmerdale has sparked fan unrest by hinting that two cherished characters may face untimely ends.
Recent episodes over in the Dales have turned Ruby Fox-Miligan’s (portrayed by Beth Cordingly) world on its head with the unexpected arrival of her long-lost father, Anthony (played by Nicholas Day). Ruby’s world is further complicated as her daughter Steph (Georgia Jay) makes an appearance in the village as well.
The plot thickens as Ruby, who’s been harboring a secret about her dad, succumbs to turmoil and engages in an affair with Caleb’s (William Ash) half-brother Cain (Jeff Hordley). The storyline takes a darker turn upon the revelation of Ruby’s childhood abuse at Anthony’s hands. Furthermore, hints abound that Anthony could be Steph’s biological father.
Adding to the web of secrets, Ruby confides in Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) that there are uncertainties surrounding Steph’s paternity without disclosing the horrifying possibility of Anthony being involved. Subsequently, she arranges for a DNA test to determine if Caleb is indeed Stephs father, reports Leeds Live.
Viewers suspect that Emmerdale is pointing toward a grim fate for both Ruby and Caleb after a poignant sequence aired earlier this week. The couple enjoyed a nostalgic dance to ‘their song’ on the radio.
Reminiscing with Steph, Caleb described their early romantic antics: “There we were, me and your mum, playing tunes like this and sneaking around. Hiding in corners and well several things lead to several other things.”
Suddenly, Antony made his appearance and observed the scene. Upon noticing him, Caleb referred to Antony and stated: “And you know what? It was all to avoid the disapproval of someone not a million miles from here.”
Anthony then interjected with a quip: “I guess you were the modern day Romeo and Juliet,” to which Caleb concurred. However, fans have interpreted Anthony’s comment as foreshadowing the demise of Caleb and Ruby.
“My prediction is that Caleb and Ruby die, clue is ‘the modern day Romeo and Juliet’,’ said one viewer on an Emmerdale Facebook fan page. Another person concurred: “I thought exactly the same. ” Meanwhile, on X, a third fan echoed their sentiments and wrote: “Erm ‘Modern day Romeo and Juliet’ comment in tonight’s Emmerdale… That better not be a hint to Caleb and Ruby both dying later this year. Ruby is one of the best things to happen to Emmerdale in a long time, so I’ll be raging.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
