Emmerdale teen Samson Dingle could make a return to the ITV soap if some major hints are anything to go by, after actor Sam Hall’s exit from the show recently
Emmerdale’s latest episode may have teased a future return for Samson Dingle months on from his sad exit.
The character was sent to prison for his involvement in the setting up of Matty Barton, after a stabbing incident, as well as an attack on villain Josh. Samson was sentenced to four years in prison leaving his family devastated.
Sam Hall left the role after over a decade after he was reportedly axe, with his character written out. There had been rumours he’d be killed off, but instead Samson went to prison.
His family including dad Sam, stepmother Lydia and his young daughter Esther all remain in the village. Samson was talked about often this week following the death of his grandfather and soap legend Zak Dingle.
The family gathered to say goodbye on Thursday, with Tina Dingle making a reappearance. But Samson was nowhere to be seen, after Sam shared the news that he was not allowed to leave prison to attend the funeral.
Sam had also revealed he was unable to share the heartbreaking news with his son himself, and had to pass it on to someone at the prison. Sam could not see his son and was not able to take him to the funeral.

On Friday night we saw Sam open up to his siblings Cain and Belle Dingle about how he felt he’d failed as a father, and got things wrong with Samson. Blaming himself for how things turned out, he thought the reason his late dad Zak wanted Cain to be the head of the family was because he didn’t trust Sam.
Sam claimed he couldn’t do anything for himself, before discussing his heartache over his son. He then shared his fears about losing his son after the loss of Zak.
As Belle and Cain reassured him Samson would be okay, Sam claimed that “prison changes you” and that it would impact Samson and his life. He commented that he’d failed him and that he “wasn’t his dad” and hadn’t done right by him.
With the constant talk of Samson and his future and life after prison, amid fans not only being annoyed over his axing but also calling out the four-year prison sentence, might we see him again soon? Could Samson end up being released, and might he head back to the village? Could Samson even be the surprise arrival teased for Christmas?
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
