Emmerdale Caleb’s mystery caller confirmed as ITV soap set for devastating death twist

Emmerdale fans were confused over Caleb Miligan’s cryptic phone call on Friday with him trying to avoid someone who was calling his wife Ruby’s phone, but actor Will Ash has revealed all

Viewers wondering who Emmerdale’s Caleb Miligan was on the phone to on Friday can look no further.

Caleb actor Will Ash has revealed all to The Mirror and other press, revealing the identity of the mystery caller he was heard warning in the latest episode. Someone called his wife Ruby Miligan’s phone, and after he answered he looked shocked – with fans believing it could be the person blackmailing Will Taylor.

Realising who it was he soon warned them never to call again before blocking the number. He then held onto Ruby’s phone, but who was calling and what did they want?

We now have answers for fans wanting to know the truth, and it could mean heartbreaking scenes ahead for Ruby, while it has nothing to do with Will. A sad death looks set to be on the cards, with Caleb actor Will telling us it was Ruby’s estranged mother making contact.

Speaking to us recently ahead of the mystery scenes airing, Will revealed Ruby’s mother Helen would drop the devastating bombshell that she is dying. She’s now desperate to make amends with Ruby in the time she has left, but will Caleb stop them from reconciling after past drama?

Will told us: “He gets another phone call in the next episode. And it’s Ruby’s mum phoning him this time, she’s got his number and she’s phoning him and she’s saying, ‘I want to see Ruby I’m in hospital and I’m dying and I want to see her’ and I say, ‘No, you can’t see her, I’ll come to see you’.

“That’s how it started. He decides to go to see what she wants. She says she’s on her deathbed, he doesn’t know if that’s true. He knows, because she’s been so manipulative and behaved terribly in the past, he just doesn’t trust anything that she’d ever say.

“So he decides to go just to see what she actually wants. If she is on her deathbed, and if she is about to die then maybe Ruby does need some kind of closure with that and there’s a potential for sorting it out. As it turns out, that’s not what happens.”

It seems Caleb and Helen will clash over Ruby and their past, but it’s yet to be confirmed if Ruby will find out what’s happened, or that her mum is unwell. Will went on: “So Ruby and Caleb don’t have any relationship with Ruby’s mum at all because basically what her mum and her dad did, when Ruby and Caleb got together when they were about 17, they really disliked Caleb.

“They hated him just because he’d come out of a care home, he didn’t have any family, they thought he was beneath their daughter. Helen was really kind of snobby, judgmental, and what Helen and her husband did was they gave Ruby an ultimatum. They basically said, ‘Look, if you want to be with this boy, then we don’t want anything to do with you’.

“So they cut Ruby out, they were quite vicious, really and quite brutal in how they dealt with Ruby. They totally cut her out of their lives and she wasn’t a nice person.”

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
