Emmerdale announces two new characters in dramatic Ruby story

More Milligans are inbound!

Emmerdale has announced two new characters, with the duo set to be involved with Ruby Fox-Milligan.

Ruby made a temporary exit from the ITV soap last month (October 23) after discovering that her husband, Caleb, had lied regarding the will of her late mother, Helen.

After departing the village with her marriage on the rocks, it remains to be seen how Ruby’s impending return will pan out, but the soap has now announced two new characters in the dramatic storyline.

Anthony and Steph Milligan, Ruby’s father and daughter respectively, will be arriving in the village soon, with the characters set to have “far-reaching repercussions” for the Milligan family.

Anthony, who hasn’t seen his daughter in over 30 years, will be played by Nicholas Day, with the character described as being “delightful company to the outside world” after having “mellowed” in his old age.

Steph will be played by Georgia Jay, with the character having not seen either of her parents in over a decade. Described as “smart, confident and completely reckless”, Steph is said to share the “best and worst parts” of her parents with her “narcissistic need to win at all costs”.

“I’ve been made so welcome in the Emmerdale family. And my screen family is great to work with, the scenes just fly. No kidding – I feel blessed,” said Day of his role, which will begin later this month.

Jay, who has previously starred in Giri/Haji, said of her new role: “I am thrilled to be joining the cast of Emmerdale. The cast and crew have all been so welcoming and I’m very excited to see what lies ahead for Steph, given her intriguing backstory.”

“We’re delighted to be welcoming Nicholas and Georgia to Emmerdale as part of the Miligan family,” added producer Sophie Roper. “With so much yet to discover about Ruby, the arrival of her father and daughter will unlock her past.”

“[We will also] see Ruby and Caleb tested in ways we’ve never seen before. With two actors of such great calibre, they’re certainly set to make their mark on the Dales,” she continued.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
