Emmerdale’s Tommy Moon revealed the identity of his mystery online friend called Matt on Tuesday night, but BBC soap viewers were left unconvinced by his new claims
Tommy Moon could be hiding something sinister on EastEnders, after the truth about his mystery online friend was revealed.
The teenager recently told his parents Kat Slater and Alfie Moon about a friend he had met online on his console. Kat started to worry about the mystery Matt after Tommy became very seen to speak with him all the time.
On Tuesday Kat demanded answers form her son, after trying to find the messages between Tommy and Matt on the console but it proved to difficult. Viewers had seen some of the messages, so when Tommy revealed the truth about Matt they were left suspicious.
Tommy had told his mum to drop it when she tried to get him to invite Matt round for dinner. She feared he was being dragged into something dark and that they would lose him for good, after their recent drama with social services.
As Kat shared her concern, Tommy revealed he had not actually met the friend in person leading to Alfie suggesting they could be a predator. It’s then that Tommy was forced to admit that Matt or the friend is not a person, and they are in fact AI.
Tommy shared it spoke to him “like a mate would”, with him turning to the AI tool due to not having anyone to talk to. As he confirmed to Alfie that it was “like a computer”, he revealed it had helped him having something to speak to.

Kat urged her son to speak to her and Alfie, telling him the AI friend “wasn’t all he had” with Tommy clearly lonely. Viewers. were sure there was more to the storyline though.
Some fans thought Tommy might be lying, and it wasn’t really AI. Viewers questioned if there was someone more sinister soon to be exposed as the mystery Matt.
Taking to social media to share their theories, one fan posted: “I’ve got a sneaky suspicion he’s lying. But if he’s not then I feel for him.” Another agreed: “Do we trust Tommy?? Who’s his new friend Matt?? I don’t trust him at all.”
A third viewer said: “I think Matt could possibly be an older sexual predator who is grooming Tommy… if you look closely at their messages, one says something along the lines of ‘how’s my fave little buddy?’ I could be jumping to conclusions here, but it gave me a little bit of a bad feeling.”
