EastEnders spoilers see Phil Mitchell haunted by the past as Grant returns to Walford

EastEnders icon Phil Mitchell is set to be plagued by hallucinations as his depression continues to take hold

As EastEnders prepares for its monumental 40th anniversary, viewers can expect a surge of drama in the upcoming episodes. Phil Mitchell, portrayed by Steve McFadden, continues to grapple with depression, which escalates into symptoms of psychosis and hallucinations that transport him back to his childhood home.

These visions, set in 1985, allow Phil to witness a significant moment from his youth. As Phil’s mental state deteriorates, these hallucinations begin to bleed into his reality, leading him to interact with his younger self in Walford.

He also encounters his mother, Peggy (Jaime Winstone), within these visions before a familiar face reappears in his actual life. The week commences with Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) persuading her ex-husband Phil to seek medical help as his health declines. However, Phil reacts poorly to Sharon’s intervention, resulting in her expulsion from his house.

The following day, Martin (James Bye), Ruby (Louisa Lytton), Stacey (Lacey Turner), and their children indulge in nostalgia over drinks at The Queen Vic.

Kathy (Kathy Beale) and Sharon are touched by the reminiscing, but it’s evident that Sharon’s thoughts are preoccupied with Phil, reports Plymouth Live.

Concurrently, at No. 55, Phil’s mental health continues to worsen as he begins to experience hallucinations.

On the day of Billy (Perry Fenwick) and Honey’s (Emma Barton) joint sten-do at The Vic, Teddy (Roland Manookian) ensures his brother has a memorable celebration. However, Sharon finds it hard to enjoy herself due to her ongoing worries about Phil.

The situation escalates when Mo (Laila Morse) reveals that Phil funded the event, and alarm bells ring when Phil goes missing. As Phil’s mental health deteriorates, he struggles to distinguish reality from hallucinations depicting scenes from the Mitchell family home in 1985.

Sharon, Jay (Jamie Borthwick), Billy, and Honey launch a frantic search for Phil after failing to locate him at No. 55. Jay eventually finds Phil back at No. 55, leading to a crisis talk with Sharon.

Despite insisting he’s fine, Phil soon receives a visit from Nigel Bates (Paul Bradley), who brings along a familiar face hoping to help – Grant Mitchell (Ross Kemp) is back.

Meanwhile, Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) remains captivated by her sister Bianca Jackson’s (Patsy Palmer) confession video, despite Reiss Colwell’s (Jonny Freeman) attempts to persuade her to forget it.

After confronting Mo, Sonia seeks refuge in the laundrette, but her health soon takes a worrying turn, prompting a trip to the hospital.

Reiss, who has been holding Bianca captive in a lockup since November, returns to find something unexpected. Upon hearing about Sonia’s condition, he quickly leaves. The question remains: is Bianca still alive?

Sonia is advised to rest at home, and once back at No. 25, Reiss finds an excuse to secretly return to the lockup. At No. 25, Yolande (played by Angela Wynter) comes to check on Sonia.

Just as Sonia is about to delete the confession video, she stumbles upon a shocking discovery. This leads to a tense confrontation with Reiss, who prevents Sonia from leaving the house.

Meanwhile, across the Square, the mystery surrounding Cindy’s (Michelle Collins) attack persists, with accusations circulating among the Beale and Knight families.

The week concludes with a joyful moment at The Vic when Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) returns home from rehab for her alcoholism, welcomed and comforted by her loved ones.
