EastEnders shock as Cindy and Junior’s affair is uncovered – but not by Ian or George

Cindy Beale’s (Michelle Collins) big secret has finally been uncovered in EastEnders – and unfortunately for her, it just happens to be her biggest enemy who has found out about her affair with Junior Knight (Micah Balfour).

Friday’s episode of the BBC soap saw none other than Elaine Knight (Harriet Thorpe) stumble upon evidence of the pair’s clandestine relationship, as the walls started closing in on Cindy in the build-up to this year’s big Christmas Day special.

Fans saw Cindy believe she’d neutralised a threat from a pregnant Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) following a dramatic series of events.

As we picked up with the action in Walford, Lauren and son Louie were trapped in a house fire, but were soon rescued by Cindy.

After Lauren was taken to hospital, she finally admitted she’d become addicted to painkillers to partner Peter Beale (Thomas Law).

Peter and his father Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) were then stunned when Lauren revealed Cindy had been supplying her with the pills.

A panicked Cindy gaslit Lauren and denied everything, prompting Lauren to reveal all about their pact, which they struck last month after Lauren found out about Cindy’s involvement in Kojo Asare’s (Dayo Koleosho) recent accident.

As Cindy poisoned Ian and Peter to believe it was Lauren’s addiction talking, Lauren suggested they head to The Vic to speak with Kojo, hoping he would repeat what he told her earlier this week.

Arriving at the pub, they headed upstairs, where Freddie Slater (Bobby Brazier) and Anna Knight (Molly Rainford) were sorting out audio files of their bird song recordings – not realising that one of them had captured Cindy confessing her affair with Junior to former flame David Wicks (Michael French) back in October.

As the Beales quizzed Kojo on what happened on the night of his accident, he refused to corroborate Lauren’s version of events, still worried about the threat Cindy made to him if he were to reveal the truth.

A furious Lauren fled the pub, as Cindy was smug she’d managed to dig herself out of a huge hole.

But later that evening, Anna and Freddie headed downstairs leaving the audio of their recordings running in the living room.

Believing she was hearing things, Elaine was initially baffled as she heard Cindy’s voice playing out, but that confusion soon turned to horror, as Cindy’s confession played out in full.

With Elaine now armed with this powerful piece of information about her husband’s ex-wife, will she be the one who detonates the bomb set to go off on Christmas Day?

EastEnders continues on Monday at 7.30pm on BBC One or stream first from 6am on iPlayer.
