EastEnders’ Louisa Lytton promises ‘something special’ in Ruby and Stacey’s relationship

EastEnders’ star Louisa Lytton has hinted at a change ahead for her character Ruby Allen’s relationship with love rival Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner).

The former best friends have a somewhat complicated history, which is part in thanks to their former marriages to Martin Fowler (James Bye).

Ruby also had Stacey locked up back in 2021 after falsely claiming she was behind an attack that caused her to miscarry her and Martin’s unborn baby.

Stacey’s mum Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) later got revenge on Ruby by setting her up as the owner of a cannabis farm, landing her with a spell behind bars.

Since Ruby returned to Walford at the end of last year, fans have seen her rekindle things with Martin – just as a spark was reigniting between him and other ex-wife Stacey.

While things have still been frosty between the two women, Louisa believes there is still space for reconciliation.

‘I see them as more like siblings than anything else!’ she explained.

‘In some families, siblings can do terrible things to each other and really fall out but there’s still love and care there because they have known each other since they were children and been through so much. There’s almost no getting away from each other.

‘There is a lot to it, but in time something quite special could come out of Ruby and Stacey’s relationship, if they were able to stop squabbling!’ she joked.

However, Louisa admitted that Ruby ‘knows deep down there’s a deep connection’ between Martin and Stacey.

‘She’s got a woman’s intuition!’ she said. ‘But she’s in denial because she’s here now in the Square and she’s started this new chapter with Martin and introduced [their son] Roman into a family unit with him, so Ruby has to go along with this, even if she does worry that he’s meant for Stacey.’

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One or stream first from 6am on iPlayer.
