EastEnders’ legend tipped for dramatic exit in 40th anniversary ‘whodunit’ murder mystery

EastEnders’ fans are convinced that one icon will be killed off in a ‘whodunit’ plot to mark the soap’s 40th anniversary next year

EastEnders’ viewers are predicting a dramatic exit for Cindy Beale in a potential ‘whodunit’ storyline to coincide with the soap’s 40th anniversary in February 2025.

Cindy’s explosive return to Walford in August 2023, after a 25-year hiatus, saw her rekindle her romance with Ian Beale. Initially thought to have died in prison in 1998, it was later revealed that Cindy had assumed a new identity, Rose, under witness protection and had been living in Spain with her then-husband George Knight.

Since her comeback, Cindy has been embroiled in a complicated love life, attempting to rekindle her relationship with George, sharing two kisses, while also engaging in an affair with his son Junior – who is also the half-brother of her daughters. Will her deceitful actions ultimately lead to her downfall?

On Reddit, fans have been speculating about a possible murder plot involving Cindy, with one user suggesting: “Would you be down for a ‘Who Killed Cindy Beale? ‘ storyline for the 40th or in the future? ” They continued: “Personally, I don’t see Cindy becoming a long-term staple of the square again, and I could see another exit for her in the next year or two.”

“She’s already got frosty relationships with some people, she’s been having an affair that’ll likely be exposed causing further rifts, her relationship with Ian won’t survive much longer if we’re honest and she’s not exactly made herself a liked member of the Square, nor does she have any friendships we really know about.”, reports the Manchester Evening News.

They concluded: “I’d truly be down for a Who Killed Cindy Beale? storyline to mirror the Lucy storyline, but it might be a bit too copy and paste – definitely a lot of suspects to play with though – off the top of my head you’d have: George, Ian, Gina, Anna, Junior, Elaine, Peter, Lauren, Kathy, and those are just the people she’s currently on thin ice with.”

A second chimed in endorsing the ‘Who killed Cindy Beale’ narrative and quipped: “Yes because she’ll finally be permanently dead.”

Following suit, a third added their two cents: “That’s a great idea but only if David is involved.”

One viewer expressed conditions for such a plot twist: “As long as it would be wrapped up in like 6 months and not dragged on interminably. And she’d have to actually be dead, not some cop out where she could be resurrected again in the future,” they suggested.

EastEnders airs Monday – Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One and iPlayer
