EastEnders legend Michelle Collins reveals ‘secret’ life ambition away from TV career

Michelle Collins, who recently reprised her role of Cindy Beale in EastEnders, has opened up about her secret aspirations that could take her off the TV once again

It’s almost been a year since femme-fatal Cindy Beale rocked up to Albert Square, following a 25-year hiatus.

It was a moment that shocked the nation to its very core – as EastEnders viewers thought the infamous character had died during childbirth in prison, after being incarcerated for hiring a hitman to kill her husband Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt).

Michelle Collins, who portrays the villainous homewrecker, admits stepping back into the soap universe was a ‘nerve-wracking’ experience, but that it soon felt like she’d never been away.

For her, the Queen Vic boozer will ‘always feel like a stage’ – one filled with drama, and twists and turns.

But after her character’s sensational resurrection, Michelle – who runs her own production company – has revealed a ‘secret’ life ambition of hers that could take her off our screens once more.

Appearing on the How To Be 60 podcast, hosted by Kaye Adams, the 62-year-old opened up about the death of her mother, as well as finding love and contentment in her 60s.

She was asked if she had any aspirations she’d not told anybody about, and joked: “I’ve got a few secret ambitions, really. But then if I told you, would it be secret?

“You know what, I’ve never worked at the National Theatre. I’d love to work at the National Theatre…

“One day, I’d love to play Blanche de Bois. and I was going to say, and that’s a really stupid thing to say, but maybe I’m too old – but I’m not going to say it.”

The star also revealed another ambition of hers is to get her motorcycle licence so she can do a road trip through America with her partner.

“I just want to do it and not tell him and then surprise him,” Michelle added. “Bring home the helmet or something.”

But for now, Michelle will contine to cause havoc on the streets of Walford, an will need to go to extreme measures to keep her character’s affair a secret.

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
