EastEnders fans have been left stunned to realise Jacqueline Jossa’s famous relative

EastEnders fans have been left astounded upon discovering that actress Jacqueline Jossa shares a familial connection with a fellow soap star.

Jacqueline, who rose to prominence portraying Lauren Branning on the BBC One soap since her 2010 debut, quickly became a central figure in the Branning family’s dramatic storylines.

From unexpected love triangles to a struggle with alcoholism, Lauren’s tenure in Walford has been anything but dull. Particularly of late, as she developed an addiction to painkillers last year following severe pain caused by an accident at Peggy’s bar in the renowned square.

During the soap’s live episode commemorating its 40th anniversary, Lauren played a significant role alongside cousin Bianca (Patsy Palmer) in assisting Sonia (Natalie Cassidy) during childbirth at the Queen Vic.

She’s played Lauren for years

However, it has only recently come to light for some fans that Jacqueline is related to Megan Jossa, another familiar face from the soap. Megan portrayed Courtney Mitchell, the daughter of Grant (Ross Kemp) and Tiffany (Martine McCutcheon) Mitchell.

Making her first appearance in 2006 at the tender age of 11, Megan featured in 24 episodes between March and June. During her stint on EastEnders, the young actress was nominated for the Best Young Actor award in 2006, reports Plymouth Live.

Courtney quickly established herself as a rebellious character in Walford, frequently defying authority. In addition to clashing with cousin Ben (Charlie Jones), Courtney also expressed disdain towards her father’s new girlfriend, Carla.

In 2006, the characters Grant and Courtney relocated to Portugal, culminating Megan’s run on the series. However, Grant made a solo return to Walford in the recent 40th-anniversary episode.

Post-departure from the soap, Megan remained in the acting sphere, with roles in TV dramas such as The Take and Stage School. Beyond television, she featured in an episode of The Bill and graced the West End with her presence in theatre production.

EastEnders enthusiasts have been taken aback upon discovering that Jacqueline and Megan are kin. Spotted on an EastEnders Facebook fan group, one member exclaimed: “I didn’t know this!” A second was quick to note: “Wow, she does look like Jacqueline.”

Echoing the sentiment, another wrote: “That’s uncanny.” Additionally, another complimented Megan’s talents: “I liked Courtney’s a good little actress. Didn’t know she was Jac’s cousin though.”

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One
