EastEnders fans have major gripe that ‘overshadows’ explosive new affair storyline

Two popular characters went pass the point of no return

EastEnders fans have taken to social media to share a major gripe they have that ‘overshadows’ an explosive affair storyline that intensified on Thursday night (March 13).

The past few weeks have seen Harvey Monroe struggling to feel appreciated by his partner Jean Slater, who has been planning Martin Fowler’s funeral and ignoring all of his suggestions.

With Jean giving him the cold shoulder, Harvey and Kathy Beale have been spending more time together in recent weeks, sharing a kiss together after going on a picnic on Wednesday (March 12).

Kathy ran away after the kiss, leaving Harvey feeling embarassed as he returned home to Jean, who adds to his guilt when she apologises for her behaviour in the latest episode of the BBC soap.

Those who want Harvey and Kathy to be together were left biting their nails as Harvey told Kathy in the café that he wanted to keep his distance moving forward.

However, Harvey changed his mind after cooking a special meal for Jean that evening, only for her not to show up despite agreeing to have a night in earlier in the day.

Harvey made his way to Kathy’s house, almost being caught by her son Ian in the process, where he apologised for his comments in the café and the pair sealed their deal to begin an affair with a kiss.

Over on the EastEnders Reddit, @ebichuman5 argued in a post titled ”affairs aren’t the only way to end a relationship’, pointing out cheating has led to the breakups of Cindy and Ian, and Sharon and Teddy in the past few months alone..

“Instead of starting an affair, Harvey could have had a fiery argument with Jean about how she treats him, saying that he’s done. Jean would finally wake up and realise how much she’s taken Harvey for granted, only for him to move on with Kathy because it’s too late,” they said.

Many EastEnders fans were in agreement with the point in the comments section of the post as they called for less affairs in the town of Walford.

@Warm_Astronomer_9305 said: “Yes I agree with this because then what happens is the cheating overshadows every issue the couple had before and then the cheater (rightly) is in the wrong BUT the other issues that were already happening aren’t properly addressed and it doesn’t matter anyway because the person had an affair. Then everyone else on the square turns on the cheaters.”

@Consistent_Potato641 wrote: “Would’ve been better if they put things on hold till the funeral was over and then Harvey could let Jean down softly and end the relationship. He could move out get his own place and then start a relationship with Kathy.” Ok-Voice4104 added: “This is soaps in general. Pretty much every relationship has end with cheating, I’ve been complaining about this for years. But it’s just typical soap drama.”

@ moniquetoyah commented: “They’re gonna make Harvey out to be the bad person so that Jean looks like a diamond, when we’ve all seen how badly she’s treated him over the past few months.” @LusciousLouisee noted: “Harvey just needs to be honest. That’s the thing. He hasn’t said a word to Jean at all. She’s taking him for granted probably because she doesn’t actually know how he feels and how her behaviour is pushing him away.”
