Danny Dyer has opened up about why he left EastEnders, revealing it was due to a ‘crazy’ storyline involving his character Mick Carter and Albert Square villain Janine Butcher
Danny Dyer has revealed that he actually left EastEnders because of a “mad” storyline involving his character Mick Carter and Janine Butcher, played by Charlie Brooks.
During an appearance on Sky’s Smart TV, Danny, 47, opened up about his time on the BBC soap. “Mick’s got a kid with Janine, how mad is that?” he said, to laughter from the audience.
He then added, “That’s why I left, they f***ing put me with Janine, I thought I’ve got to f**k off.” The crowd erupted into laughter and applause, while Danny continued, “It’s the truth.”
Sharing the clip on X, formerly Twitter, a fan wrote: “Safe to say that Danny wasn’t a fan of Mick and Janine (can’t blame him).”
Danny Dyer had been a staple on EastEnders for over eight years, playing Mick Carter, the landlord of the Queen Vic pub and one of the show’s central characters. Mick’s dramatic storylines, including his complicated relationships with various characters, made him a fan favourite.
However, Danny’s exit from the show in 2022 came after a series of major changes to his character’s story. His last notable plot saw his character Mick reunite with his childhood love, Linda Carter (Kellie Bright), before being involved in a high-speed car chase with Janine Butcher, which ended with all three characters plunging into the sea.
Away from the screen, Danny has been helping to run a family-owned caravan park in Kent The former EastEnders actor has joined the management team at Priory Hill & Nutts Farm Holiday Park on the Isle of Sheppey. It is understood he decided to invest in the successful business after being inspired by his dad Tony, who took him on family caravanning holidays as a child.
Last month, Danny was seen behind a bar at the park, mowing grass, and doing other odd-jobs while dressed in a branded hat and gilet, alongside his daughter Dani, 28. Speaking about the new project, Danny told The Mirror: “What you might not know about me is I love a caravan, and I love a caravan site. So, with my daughter Dani by my side, as the voice of reason, I’m taking charge of one. I’m chucking in a few quid, and will try and make the greatest of British holidays cool again.
“Now this could be a triumph, or a complete f* failure. But there’s only one way to find out and that’s to roll the f* dice.”
Danny’s daughter Dani, who has three children, including twin daughters with West Ham star Jarrod Bowen, added: “My dad wants to get involved in the caravan park and I’m all in. I love a caravan, so why not?
“My dad is a very friendly person – he’s good at bringing everyone in – but has he got what it takes to make a success of this? I think he has, just so long as people don’t decide to go to Magaluf.”
The results of the business venture are being filmed by the award-winning production company Expectation Television for a new Sky TV series, currently working under the title The Dyers’ Caravan Park. The same firm were also behind the hit Amazon Prime show Clarkson’s Farm, which charted TV host Jeremy Clarkson, 64, setting up his own business.
