Corrie’s Vicky Myers breaks silence on Lisa Swain’s ‘surprise’ love twist with Carla Connor

Things are heating up on the Cobbles, as straight-talking detective Lisa is stunned by factory boss Carla’s shock revelation in the Rovers Return on New Year’s Eve

Coronation Street’s Vicky Myers, who portrays detective Lisa Swain on the iconic cobbles, has revealed to OK! that she’ll be spending New Year’s Eve at home with a ‘glass of something’ and watching the New Year celebrations and fireworks from her cosy living room. However, on the small screen, there are set to be even more fireworks as Vicky’s character’s relationship with factory boss Carla Connor, played by Alison King, is about to get a lot more intense.

Regular Corrie viewers will know that the two women have been growing closer recently, a bond that began when Carla became a supportive friend for the stressed-out detective dealing with her teenage daughter and the missing Lauren Bolton case. Just before Christmas, Carla announced to the factory workers that they were now an item.

Lisa and Carla’s burgeoning romance is set to step up a gear on New Year’s Eve

But in the Rovers Return on New Year’s Eve, Carla takes it up a level and confesses to Lisa that she’s actually fallen in love with her. “It absolutely floors Lisa,” Vicky shares with us. “She’s just come in from work and goes to the Rovers to celebrate the New Year. It catches her off guard and she doesn’t reciprocate the sentiment. That doesn’t mean she doesn’t feel the same way, I just think she’s not quite ready. This is a huge step for her.”

Vicky, 48, first graced the cobbles of Coronation Street in early 2024 as police officer DS Swain after making sporadic appearances for three years. Since then, the no-nonsense detective has been embroiled in some juicy storylines, quickly becoming a fan favourite.

The Stockport-born actress, who is currently single, admits that playing Lisa, her first gay character, has been an eye-opening experience. She’s been overwhelmed by the audience’s reaction to her same-sex love story, saying: “I’ve had so many letters and messages, and people stopping to talk to me to share their stories, which is beautiful. I’ve spoken to many couples who have been in a similar situation, and a close friend and her wife spoke to me at length.”

Vicky insists that her latest storyline isn’t just a token gesture from the soap’s creators. “This story wasn’t a tick-box exercise from Coronation Street. These are two women of a certain age, realising they have fallen for each other and coming to terms with that. It shows it can happen at any age and to anybody – love is love.”

The actress, who starred in ITV’s 2023 drama The Long Shadow, Casualty and Unforgotten, recently told Inside Soap that Lisa and Carla are “soulmates”, adding: “It’s taken Lisa by surprise. She didn’t want to trust her feelings, but there’s definitely longevity there.”
