Corrie’s Ronnie star Vinta Morgan upset after being ‘picked on’ in ‘racist’ stop and search

Coronation Street actor Vinta Morgan, who plays the role of Ronnie Bailey in the ITV soap, once opened up about a scary incident where he was stopped by police as a child

Coronation Street star Vinta Morgan once opened up about the racism he has suffered throughout his life and the impact it has had on him. The actor has played the role of Ronnie Bailey in the ITV soap since 2021. Ronnie is the brother of Ed Bailey (Trevor Michael Georges), who he tends to lead astray, which viewers have spotted since his arrival in Weatherfield.

This isn’t the actor’s first stint on a hit soap as he’s had a string of success since the early 2000s. Aside from acting, Vinta is also a writer and filmmaker, with his numerous TV and film appearances proving his incredible talents. But what’s the Corrie star’s life like away from the cobbles, let’s take a closer look…

Ronnie is Ed’s brother in Coronation Street

Vinta hails from London and has spoken about his early life on occasion. He once shared details of an incident involving the police when he was around 11 years old, as he spoke about the racism he has suffered throughout his life and said the “subtle, systemic and overt racism has had a profound impact” on him.

Speaking about one particular incident when he was just 11 years old, Vinta said: “One of the main experiences I can think about is when I was probably about 11 years old. A police officer stopped me on the street and asked me to tip my school bag out onto the floor on the pavement.”

He continued: “I had to throw all my stuff out and I didn’t know what to do as it was an adult. It was really for nothing. I was just picked on, and I’ll never forget it, because it actually was very scary.”

Vinta has starred in a string of TV shows that date back to the early 2000s with his success only growing. One of his earliest TV appearances was in The Bill for one episode before he starred in Casualty. In 2005, he secured the role of Marcus Taylor in Silent Witness and later that year made his debut in rival soap EastEnders. Vinta played the role of PC Phillips in the BBC soap for five episodes.

He went on to appear in a couple of short films and took on a role in Doctors. In 2017, he secured a role in What Happened to Monday and the following year in I Made This for You, before a role in Official Secrets. Hopping back to TV, the actor appeared in the series Urban Myths in 2019 and the huge Apple TV hit Ted Lasso in 2020. In February 2021, Vinta joined the cast of Coronation Street and has been on the ITV soap ever since.

Talking about his Corrie role before making his debut, the actor said: “It’s so great to be joining Coronation Street. I grew up watching it, I know the characters, I’ve lived the stories and now, to play my part on the street, I can only say I’m blessed. In my household, it has always been a firm favourite and I’m so thrilled to be joining as this enigmatic character.”

Over on Instagram, Vinta can be found sharing a series of videos of his intense fitness regime and hours spent at the gym. Alongside a clip of him training at the gym, he can be found posting an inspirational quote relating to goals and fitness.

One video in October saw the soap star doing pull-ups at the gym with a motivational soundtrack recording. He accompanied it with the caption: “Wednesday Motivation: All progress takes place outside the comfort zone.”

Another clip from his daily workouts had the caption “Transform that pain into power, you won’t regret it”, as the actor underwent an arm workout with 16kg weights. Vinta can be seen working out intensively during his time at the gym through a number of different weight exercises which appeared to be a routine for the actor.
