Coronation Street’s Carla Connor is set for a new romance – and fans are convinced they have already worked out who she will be getting close to on the cobbles
Coronation Street enthusiasts believe they’ve cracked the code on Carla Connor’s next romantic partner, and it’s not DS Lisa Swain.
Viewers will remember that Carla (played by Alison King), who made her debut in the soap back in 2006, was left devastated earlier this year when her marriage to Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) ended as he departed the cobbles.
Since then, she seems to have formed a bond with DS Lisa Swain (Lisa Meyers). As Lisa attempts to take down the vile Joel Deering (Calum Lill), Carla has shown empathy towards the stressed detective and single mother.
Carla even arranged for Swain’s daughter Betsy (Sydney Martin) to gain work experience at the Underworld factory. Last week, Lisa came to Carla’s aid when she was confronted at the factory by the father of a mischievous child she’d recently collided with.
Later, the two shared a tense moment where Carla brushed a lock of hair from Lisa’s face, only for Lisa to quickly find a reason to leave. However, fans are now convinced that Carla won’t actually end up with Lisa. Sharp-eyed viewers predict a former iconic landlady will return and catch Carla’s eye, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Expressing their theories online, fans speculate that Carla’s friend Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh) could make a return and spark a romance between them, which would be a major plot twist.
On a Corrie Facebook fan page, one user commented: “I’m still waiting for Michelle to come back and then her and Carla can get together.” Another added: “Yes please! “.
Fans are buzzing at the prospect of Michelle Connor’s return to Corrie after actress Kym Marsh hinted that she might be making a comeback. One excited fan chimed in, “I could see this happening tbh. Come on make it happen.” While another shared their enthusiasm, “Oh my god I hope so, Michelle was one of my favourites.”
After saying farewell to the Street in 2019, Michelle has been sorely missed, with Kym having joined the cast back in 2006 and quickly capturing the hearts of viewers, bagging a treasure trove of accolades.
The door remained open for Michelle, as Kym, speaking with Liverpool eco earlier, dangled hope for fans saying, “Never say never. I’d like to think I would go back if it suited us both at the time.”
Moreover, Kym disclosed to The Mirror in August, “It was left open, very much so and if the chance and opportunity was to arrive then I could always return if that was what was wanted.” So yeah, there is always that option for her to go back, unless they kill her off! But there is that opportunity and I mean, I just love that show. “I will always love Coronation Street, it’s such a major part of my life.”
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
