Coronation Street’s Bethany Platt was left fighting for her life after a botched liposuction operation in Turkey – and now fans are convinced they know who the clinic owner is
Coronation Street fans reckon they’ve sussed out the mystery owner of the cosmetic surgery clinic responsible for Bethany Platt’s botched liposuction.
Back in September, Bethany (played by Lucy Fallon) jetted off to Turkey on a fully-paid trip to pen an article about a local cosmetic clinic. But she was offered an opportunity too tempting to resist.
The much-loved character underwent liposuction surgery, which ended disastrously as medics were forced to intervene. The procedure left Bethany with a perforated bowel and life-threatening sepsis, resulting in her needing a stoma bag – a change that’s now permanent.
Her family were left scrambling to cover hospital bills after it became clear her medical insurance wouldn’t foot the bill. Consequently, Bethany’s gran Gail Platt (Helen Worth) had to take out a bridging loan.
Since returning to Weatherfield, Bethany has found it tough adjusting to her new reality. She’s not only pushed away her boyfriend Daniel (Rob Mallard), but also faced the embarrassment of her stoma bag leaking publicly at the Rovers, reports Plymouth Live.
In next week’s episodes, Bethany attends her stoma support group and is later shown an article by her mum Sarah (Tina O’Brien). The piece reveals another botched operation at the Turkish clinic she sued.
As the week unfolds, Debbie Webster (played by Sue Devaney), who introduced Bethany to the clinic, grows anxious when Bethany considers legal action against the clinic after another botched procedure.
Legal eagle Adam Barlow (portrayed by Sam Robertson) counsels Bethany and Sarah to go after compensation from a director of the Turkish clinic who, shockingly, resides in the UK – and they’re gobsmacked when he discloses the name. Now, Corrie enthusiasts are convinced they’ve sussed out the identity of the director – and it’s a familiar face from the street.
On a Corrie fan page on Facebook, viewers have been speculating about the upcoming plot twists. One fan speculated: “I think the shock director is Debbie.” Another suggested: “I can see Debbie being an investor but not a director. But with the Corrie writers, you never know.”
Another fan added their two cents: “Yeah that’s who I thought as well. I think she was asked about that earlier on in the story so I can see that coming back to haunt her.” And reinforcing the theory, another viewer stated confidently: “It’s definitely Debbie.”
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
