Coronation Street’s Vicky Myers sends ‘love you’ message to soap co-star

Sydney Martin has celebrated a special occasion

Coronation Street star Vicky Myers who currently plays the role of DC Lisa Swain on the cobbles has sent her onscreen daughter Sydney Martin well wishes. Sydney Martin plays the role of Betsy Swain on the ITV soap and yesterday the actress turned 23.

Posting an image to her Instagram story, Vicky shared a selfie of herself and Sydney captioning it: “Happy birthday Sydney! Hope you’ve had a wonderful day, you beautiful woman! Love you.”

The actresses who play mother and daughter duo in Weatherfield have been at the forefront of some of the soap’s biggest storylines in recent months. Coronation Street villain Joel Deering’s death has led to the soap’s “biggest-ever” whodunnit.

DS Lisa Swain and Joel’s ex-fiancee Dee-Dee Bailey teamed up to bring the solicitor down after it was revealed earlier this year that he was Lauren’s “secret boyfriend” and was behind her disappearance and presumed murder after he was seen attacking her with a chair leg.

During Wednesday’s episode of the ITV soap detective Kit revealed to Lisa that Joel died from two blows to the head, inflicted by a heavy weapon, most likely a crowbar. Lisa is shocked to discover from Yasmeen that she threw Mason out because he had a crowbar. Betsy is intrigued when her mum tells her to stay away from Mason and it’s not long before she warns him that the police are onto him.

Sydney Martin has quickly become a Coronation Street fan favourite. The rising star first appeared on the show in June when she was introduced in mysterious circumstances as Sabrina’s friend.

Sydney, who regularly keeps fans update on social media shared images yesterday as she celebrated her 23rd birthday. Posting to her Instagram story she wrote “the most wholesome birthday surprise” as she stood by a chalkboard with “happy 23rd birthday” written on it. In another snap she can be seen holding a birthday cake.

Despite being aged 23 the soap star told the ECHO and other press earlier this year how she is grateful to be older than her character. She said: “To come in on the Lauren [Bolton] storyline, which is such an important, massive storyline and to be a little bit older and understand the serious topics it’s dealing with more has been nice.”

She added: “It is weird though, don’t get me wrong, because [Betsy] is six years younger than I am. She joked: “I mean, I layer on the moisturiser.”

The role is Sydney’s first acting gig in a TV show and she said she was “over the moon” to land the part. The soap star had auditioned for two smaller roles in Corrie earlier this year and was blown away when she landed the part of Betsy.

Sydney does not hail from a showbiz family and was working six days a week in Tesco to subsidise her acting career when she got the role. The soap star laughed in her interview with the ECHO and other press as she revealed she handed in her notice at the supermarket chain before telling her elated family the incredible career news.
