Coronation Street’s Tracy Barlow ‘wins’ against Cassie Plummer as devastating face-off and huge return confirmed

The two characters are set to be involved in a devastating face-off after the truth about Cassie and Ken Barlow was uncovered

Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney has teased that Tracy Barlow will ‘win’ in her fight against Cassie Plummer as they’re set to be involved in a devastating face-off.

As fans of the ITV soap have already seen, Cassie was finally rumbled by Ken Barlow as he discovered she’d been drugging him for months while also secretly using his credit card for expensive purchases.

In the scenes, Cassie made up excuses to not let Ken look at his own account after his card got declined during a trip to the local shop. But Ken didn’t seem too happy and got Cassie to go back to the shop instead while she insisted he not look at the laptop.

Later on, Cassie made them both a cup of tea, but when she put them down, Ken switched the mugs and asked her to drink. When she was hesitant, he revealed he knew what she had been up to and told her there was no point in denying it.

Ken eventually kicked her out but after Cassie left, he gasped for breathe and clung onto his chest as he collapsed in his chair before he was found by daughter Tracy and rushed to hospital.

At the hospital, the family were told that Ken had a heart attack and will need a stent fitted immediately. Once Ken woke up, he told everyone exactly what Cassie had done. Back at home, she was trying to get away but having been delayed by granddaughter Hope Stape, she left the house only to be confronted by Tracy before her arrest.

Cassie was later released from the police station but was soon told to leave the home she had been sharing with her son Tyrone Dobbs, his wife Fiz and their children.

In upcoming scenes, despite what’s happened, Ken is troubled to hear Fiz and Tyrone have thrown Cassie out. When Ken tells Tracy that he won’t be pressing charges as Cassie’s already lost everything, Tracy is incredulous and it’s also not long before she’s cast out by the rest of Weatherfield.

Struggling, Cassie calls in the pub and asks Jenny for some shifts but Jenny Connor sends her packing. With Steve McDonald and Tyrone both making it clear she’s burnt her bridges, Cassie heads into the night. With nowhere to stay and no money to her name, she unrolls her sleeping bag and hunkers down for a night in the cold.

Later, fed up that Ken has headed off to the Lakes as he’s still missing Cassie despite everything, Tracy’s filled with rage. After tearing a strip off Craig Tinker for failing to arrest Cassie, Tracy resolves to take matters into her own hands. In the ginnel, Tracy does a dodgy deal with a bloke but when Debbie Webster appears, Tracy worries how much she’s seen.

Summoning Cassie to No.1, Tracy serves lunch and suggests they thrash out their differences. Tracy hands Cassie a bag of drugs and, determined to ruin her life, urges her to get stuck in. Cassie stares at the drugs, sorely tempted, will she succumb?

Speaking about what’s to come, Claire told the Manchester Evening News: “There’s a moment of, ‘Well I might as well just do it. I’ve got nothing else, I might as well’. It’s a quick escape route if she takes those drugs but there’s also a moment that Tracy has completely won.

“Tracy has completely won and Cassie doesn’t want that. She wants to keep her dignity and she wants to stay in control and there is a moment of complete temptation when she’s got no other options. She’s sleeping rough and she’s got no other options except to do this…”

She added: “It’s made for some great scenes for us both. For Cassie and Tracy, it’s made for some aboslutely brilliant scenes for Kate [Ford] and I and I love that…”

But there is also a return on the cards as Evelyn Plummer will be back in Weatherfield as things reach a heartbreaking low for Cassie. On her character’s first reaction to her mother’s return, Claire admitted: “She thinks, ‘Not you as well! Here you are…'”

However, it’s not quite as she expected. Claire explained: “It’s funny because she expects a right rollicking off Evelyn. She expects the normal but Evelyn has a real change of heart and supports her and stands up for her. Cassie can’t believe that her mum is actually seeing her and sticking up for her. Even if Evelyn doesn’t believe a word she’s saying, there’s something in Evelyn that goes, ‘This is my daughter!'”

She added: “They were other lovely scenes for Maureen [Lipman] and I and I always love doing two-handers with Maureen. She’s always on fire, Maureen. It’s great working with her.”
