Coronation Street’s Toyah Habeeb star says ‘never looked so good’ in ‘beloved’ co-star reunion year after exit

Coronation Street star Georgia Taylor has delighted fans as she was seen enjoying an off-screen reunion alongside her on-screen sister Janet Danson.

The pair, who are famed for playing Toyah Habeeb and Leanne Battersby in the ITV soap, headed to watch their former on-screen flame Chris Gascoyne in his latest gig, almost a year after his Weatherfield exit scenes aired.

As Corrie fans know, Chris bowed out of playing Peter Barlow in scenes aired on Boxing Day 2023. There was an end of an era in Corrie during the last festive season as Peter and wife Carla Connor called it quits, bringing to an end one of soap fans’ most-loved relationships.

It then led to the exit of the actor who had earlier confirmed he would be leaving the long-running show after 23 years. Chris first appeared as Peter in 2000 during Corrie’s 40th anniversary live episode. He then left the role in 2003 and returned in 2007 for a brief stint before returning full-time in 2008.

In January 2014 it was confirmed that Chris would be leaving once again, but the following year he reprised the role for two episodes for the funeral of Deirdre Barlow, played by Anne Kirkbride. It was then revealed in 2016 that Peter would be making a return to Weatherfield, with Chris remaining in the role until the end of 2023 when his last scenes aired on December 26.

Peter made the decision to leave Weatherfield after the character struggled with guilt over his involvement in the death of serial killer Stephen Reid. Peter and Carla then looked back over their relationship and realised that, although they will always love each other, maybe they were better off apart.

Peter then left to join his friend Mickey on his yacht travelling the world and earlier this year, his son Simon Barlow, played by Alex Bain, left Weatherfield to join him after struggling without him.

Now though, Chris is keeping busy this Christmas played Stromboli in a pantomime production of Pinocchio at Bradford’s Alhambra Theatre. And while he may have now spent 12 months away from Corrie, his friend from the soap are still very supportive and Georgia and Jane have now been seen watching him in action on stage.

Taking to Instagram, Georgia shared a picture of herself and Jane snuggled up to Chris who stood in the middle and wrapped them both in either arm and said: “Watching our beloved PB giving his best baddie in Pinocchio. Eyeliner and black nail varnish never looked so good on a guy.”

Corrie’s Abi Webster star Sally Carman-Duttine was quick to respond to the post, writing: “Joyous!” in the comments section alongside a string of love heart eyes emojis while Liam McCheyne, who plays Weatherfield’s Dylan Wilson, simply responded with a string of red heart emojis.

Fans, meanwhile, were also thrilled to witness the reunion. @cameroncowan.123 said: “Awww wow that is a really nice.” @janette.adair.31 commented: “A lovely photo of you all…do miss Chris playing Peter.” @lisa_paxton1 wrote: “Wonderful to see actors supporting actors.”
