Coronation Street star Simon Gregson’s accountants have issued an update over whether he had split from his wife, in new official documents
Corrie star Simon Gregson has shed light over the riddle over whether he has split from his wife.
Accountants who are liquidating his production company stated last month that he was estranged from his wife of 14 years Emma.
The wording was used in official paperwork – in which the actor’s real name, Simon Gregory, is used – after being ordered to pay back a £252,000 loan he took from his production firm. Papers stated that it was “removed from the Company’s bank account and paid into Mr Gregory’s joint bank account with his estranged wife.”
It sparked much speculation about the state of his marriage – and prompted Corrie sources to insist they were still together.
But in new documents the matter appears to be cleared up once and for all. An amended report filed last week now states that £252,000 was taken from the firm and “paid into Mr Gregory’s joint bank account with his wife”.
The Steve McDonald star has been told to repay the cash so debts to the tax office and a bank can be cleared. The number crunchers have told the account that he must sell his house in three years if the money hasn’t been returned. He’s is currently repaying the money at £1,500 a month and has so far repaid £9,000, the study has revealed.
Simon liquidated Simon Gregson Productions Ltd in 2023, owing £165,000 to HMRC and Coutts bank for a Covid bounce back loan. It was revealed last year how Simon was flogging his office equipment in a bid to pay what he owes. He had offered up the ageing furniture, plus £6,000 in cash to try and pay off debts. Simon has played Steve since 1989 and is reportedly on a £150,000 salary. Emma runs Morley Tea Rooms in Wilmslow, Cheshire.
The actor, who finished second in the 2021 series of I’m A Celebrity, spoke last month about his new venture – a children’s book, called The Dream Dragon. Speaking on Loose Women, he said: “I started it about 12 or 13 years ago because my elder two boys, Harry and Alfie, kept having night terrors,” he told the panel.
“So, I told them that I had a dragon called the Dream Dragon, which would beat up the nightmares and scare them off, and they believed it,” he said. “I had to embellish on this story often, and I was telling a couple of the ladies at work, and they said ‘You should write it down’, and 12 years later I did.”
The book has already had interest from publishers, with Simon hopeful that it will be published this year and become a money spinner.
