Coronation Street actor Calum Lill, who played Joel Deering on the ITV soap, has bagged himself a new gig with Lorraine Kelly just weeks after his character was killed-off
Coronation Street’s Joel Deering was shockingly murdered in a recent episode of the ITV soap which left actor Calum Lill leaving the show after one year. But Calum has already bagged himself a new gig alongside presenting legend Lorraine Kelly.
Calum has appeared on the most recent episodes of ITV’s Lorraine. Calum has been clad in a white dressing gown to present the ‘Awesome Autumn’ prize package segment where he tells viewers how they can win a spa trip. Not only is Calum telling everyone the details, he also strips off for a swim in a pool. At the end of the ad, Calum is wrapped up in a towel and sips on a healthy green juice.
It’s not just Lorraine he’s appeared on, Calum has also been doing the prize segment for Good Morning Britain. The star makes breakfast before taking it up to a bedroom in a swanky Cotswolds house.
Calum’s character, Joel, was killed off the soap with his body being discovered in a river. Joel had been missing since September 27, having apparently staged his own suicide. Lisa Swain (Vicky Mysers) was sure that Joel really had taken his own life, however Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown), who was Joel’s fiancée, insisted that it had all been a setup.
There have been many suspects surrounding the murder, including police officers Lisa and Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) as well as Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton), who Joel groomed and attempted to murder earlier this year.
Presenting on ITV isn’t Calum’s only new role, he’s swapping the cobbles of Weatherfield for Bournemouth as he joins the cast of Bournemouth Pavilion pantomime, Jack & the Beanstalk where he’ll be playing the villainous Fleshcreep.
Calum previously told OK! that he had almost given up acting before landing his role in Coronation Street, and took on lots of jobs before getting his break.
Before Calum joined Coronation Street, he starred in Waterloo Road, Hollyoaks and Holby City – but Calum has also worked a lot of non-acting jobs too. “I worked festivals for a year in 2022. I did this paella stand and it was amazing, I’d gone from being locked inside to being at a festival five days a week.”
Calum continued: “But I was a bit down because if you’re working class and northern, all you want to do is something on Coronation Street. I thought: ‘It’s just not going to happen’. Then I was selling cars, I was rubbish at it and I didn’t enjoy it.
“I’d not worked in acting for two years when Corrie said they wanted to see me. The next day I screen tested and they said I’d know by half ten the following day.”
