Coronation Street actor Jack P Shepherd had to answer why he bought his character David Platt a jacket identical to one he owns as castmates Colson Smith and Ben Price quizzed him

Coronation Street icon Jack P Shepherd suffered an awkward wardrobe blunder he suffered as he was accused of buying himself an ‘identical’ jacket to one his character David Platt wears on the soap.

Speaking on the On the Sofa podcast, which Jack hosts with Corrie castmates Colson Smith and Ben Price, a listener asked whether the 36-year-old actor is allowed to borrow costumes from the set. They claimed to have seen Jack wearing ‘David’s puffer jacket’ in real life.

Ben, who plays Nick Tilsey on the ITV soap, said: “I know what this is now. Jack has the old car heart jacket. But he’s bought David Platt the identical North Face (jacket).”

Jack refuted the allegation, firing back: “It’s not identical then.”

Ben replied: “Jack, I’m looking at the photo evidence and it’s exactly the same. It looks very much the same to me.”

Jack, 36, has played David Platt on the Cobbles for almost 25 years.

The star recently admitted he won’t speak to his legendary on-screen mum now she’s left the soap. Helen Worth played David’s mum Gail Platt for half a century before bowing out earlier this year.

Jack, told Ben and Colson on the podcast that he has a “history” of not speaking to former co-stars. He revealed that this will also be the case for his on-screen mum.

Jack said his lack of contact applies to “all walks of life”, but explained the one time he would make an exception, much to their amusement. Jack said: “No, I usually don’t; I don’t. If the opportunity arises, and they phone me, I’ll answer”, to which his co-host, in fits of laughter, replied: “If they ring him”.

However, Jack added: “That’s just all walks of life. I don’t ring anyone really. Who do you ring?” The 36-year-old was then asked if he’d spoken to Helen since her exit, with the actor replying that he hadn’t.

His colleagues revealed that they had indeed contacted Helen since her exit. In October, Gail Platt suffered a shocking heart attack on the show, which led to a near-fatal cardiac arrest and the character being saved via a stent.
