It comes as the ITV soap was a big winner at this year’s Inside Soap Awards, with its cast picking up a string of gongs
Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd jokingly took issue with his co-star picking up an award during the latest star-studded ceremony. The ITV soap was a big winner at this year’s Inside Soap Awards, with its cast picking up a string of gongs.
Corrie scooped the coveted Best Soap accolade at the ceremony, held at London’s Salsa Temple on Monday night (September 30), as well as the Best Actor prize for Peter Ash following his character Paul Foreman’s emotional Motor Neurone Disease (MND) plot.
As well as the Best Actor trophy, Peter also landed the Best Storyline prize for Paul’s MND battle, which resulted in his character losing his life, and he and co-star Daniel Brocklebank, who stars in the long-running show as Billy Mayhew, won the Best Partnership prize.
Following their flurry of accolades, a post on the Corrie X and Instagram accounts read, alongside a list of the awards won on the night: “Give it up for our Inside Soap Awards 2024 winners! Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to vote for us, we love you loads #Corrie @insidesoapmagazine.”
They have also since shared a string of snaps of the cast who ditched Weatherfield for the capital, some of them with their impressive silverware. Alongside the post, they wrote: “The Inside Soap Awards have treated us well tonight #Corrie @insidesoapmagazine.”
But it was in the comments section of the first post that Jack, who is famed for playing David Platt in the ITV soap, cheekily quipped: “The real joke was how I didn’t win comedy.”
While his comment was in jest, Corrie fans were quick to respond.@helendareest2022 said: “You are by far one of my most favourite on the show. Absolutely hilarious.” @leeleelob replied: “Still the best character.” @nancyhovhanesian added: “You should have won.”
Other fans, meanwhile, were quick to share their congratulatory messages for the whole Corrie team.
Elsewhere at the Inside Soap Awards 2024, Emmerdale’s Eden Taylor-Draper also landed a huge prize, winning Best Actress for her part as Belle King. There was further joy in the Dales as Emmerdale won Best Family for The Dingles, and Best Pet for Minnie Piper.
EastEnders won Best Showstopper for their dramatic The Six plot, which saw Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) kill Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) over the festive period. It was also a good night for Albert Square’s Panesar family as Balvinder Sopal scooped the Soap Superstar award for her portrayal of Suki Panesar, and her on-screen husband Navin Chowdhry (Nish Panesar) won the Best Villain gong.
BBC daytime soap ‘Doctors’ is to air for the final time this December after 24 years. And the show will bow out after landing the Outstanding Achievement accolade at this year’s bash.
