The actor took to social media as there were more emotional scenes involving his character Billy Mayhew on the cobbles
Coronation Street star Daniel Brockebank has been flooded with messages as he issued a ‘heartbreaking’ soap update. The actor took to social media as there were more emotional scenes involving his character on the cobbles.
During Wednesday night’s (October 2) episode of the ITV soap, viewers saw Billy Mayhew saying his final goodbye to his late husband Paul Foreman. It came just under a month after the character, played by Peter for six years, tragically died after being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in April 2023.
As it was time to lay Paul to rest, Billy took the lead in conducting the service at the church where he and Paul had married just a year earlier.
But as the emotional service came to an end, Paul’s mum Bernie Winter’s emotions got the better of her and she took revenge for Billy letting Paul’s estranged father Denny Foreman attend the funeral.
The pair ended up arguing at the end of the service after a drunken Denny emerged, taking Bernie by surprise. They argued over which one had best supported Paul when Bernie eventually confessed that Billy hadn’t spoken to Paul on the phone like he thought as he battled to make it to the hospital as he’d already died.
The news left Billy heartbroken and he later showed up to Paul’s wake at the Rovers Return drunk, before being escorted home by Todd Grimshaw. As the latter offered words of comfort and support, Billy made a pass at him.
Amidst the tear-jerking scenes, Daniel took to social media with a selfie in which he could be seen in the church used for filming Paul’s funeral, and Billy and Paul’s wedding last year, as well as a picture of the order of service for Paul’s send-off.
Captioning the post, the soap star wrote: “Billy back in church for the most heartbreaking of reasons.” And the messages of praise came flooding in.
