Coronation Street star Daniel Brocklebank has been flooded with messages after sharing a sweet but emotional update. The actor was recently reunited with his former co-star Pete Ash as the pair continue their work for the Motor Neurone Disease community.
As viewers of the ITV soap know, the actors, famed for playing Billy Mayhew and Paul Foreman in the long-running show, were part of the soap’s hard-hitting health storyline that saw Paul sadly die 17 months after receiving an MND diagnosis.
With the help of the MND Association, the soap portrayed the deterioration of Paul’s health and eventual death, as well as the effect the disease had on his family and friends.
In the final scenes, Bernie Winter and Summer Spellman were with Paul when his health took a sudden turn as he started struggling to breathe. The pair called for an ambulance and Paul was rushed to the hospital where Bernie, Summer and Paul’s sister Gemma Winter-Brown were soon told by doctors there was nothing more they could do and they headed in to say their emotional goodbyes to Paul.
But in a tragic turn of events, Paul’s husband Billy Mayhew didn’t make it to the hospital in time to fulfil his promise of being by Paul’s side when the time came.
Since Peter’s exit, he and Daniel have been reunited on a number of occasions as they continue to pick up awards for their hard work on the storyline. At another awards ceremony at the end of last week, Peter won best performance in a continuing drama while Paul’s Motor Neurone Disease storyline picked up the award for best continuing drama storyline at the Royal Television Society North West awards.
They were then back in each other’s company, alongside Corrie co-star Harriet Bibby, who plays Weatherfield’s Summer Spellman, at the Football Against MND ball at Old Trafford. Sharing a video of the trio on the night itself, Daniel said: “My TV family at last nights #FootballAgainstMND ball at Old Trafford. Lots of incredible people are coming together to raise much-needed funds and awareness for #MND.”
He later shared a picture of himself and his beloved mum at the event as he refelcted on their own personal experience of MND. Alongside the post, Daniel wrote: “A night out with my mum raising money and awareness for #mnd. My mum lost her dad to #mnd. I lost my grandfather. As an ambassador for the @mndassoc it fills my heart on nights like this.”
And fans were quick to respond. @th0m_st_mnd said: “Thank you for everything you do.” @laurenb5982 commented: “Awww well done.” @teamstewart254 wrote: “Thank you so much for all your support.
