Coronation Street’s Daniel Brocklebank flooded with comments over ‘rare’ moment after ‘final goodbye’

Coronation Street star Daniel Brocklebank has been flooded with comments after sharing a ‘rare’ snap with his co-star after saying a ‘final goodbye’ to another.

The actor, who is known for playing Billy Mayhew in the ITV soap, took to social media with a beaming selfie alongside Julia Goulding, who fans will know for playing Weatherfield’s Shona Platt, as they showed off a usually hidden part of the long-running show’s set.

They captured a view of the famous street which showed the side of the Rovers Return right up to the end of the street where you’ll find Nick Tilsley and Leanne Battersby’s Bistro.

Captioning the post, Daniel wrote: “A rarely seen angle of that brilliant street whilst hanging out with my beautiful pal @julia_goulding.” Julia responded to the post, writing: “Such a fun day!” before Daniel’s fans and followers rushed to share their comments.

@corriescenepacksx said: “This photo is adorable omg.” @amalou6575 commented: “A lovely photo very sweet pair.” @nancy.lock.5 wrote: “Two brilliant actors.” @janabel1958 replied: “Great pic of you both.” @coro_fan_page_ added: “Great actors.”

It comes after Daniel was left saying a ‘finall goodbye’ to former co-star Peter Ash – at work that is. Fans watched the actor bow out of the ITV soap back in September as Paul Foreman.

His character’s heartbreaking death came 17 months after Paul was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in a hard-hitting storyline Corrie worked on with the help of the MND Association as they portrayed the deterioration of Paul as well as the effect the disease had on his family and friends.

In the final scenes, Bernie Winter and Summer Spellman were with Paul when his health took a sudden turn as he started struggling to breathe. The pair called for an ambulance and Paul was rushed to the hospital where Bernie, Summer and Paul’s sister Gemma Winter-Brown were soon told by doctors there was nothing more they could do and they headed in to say their emotional goodbyes to Paul.

But in a tragic turn of events, Paul’s husband Billy didn’t make it to the hospital in time to fulfil his promise of being by Paul’s side when the time came. Paul has since been laid to rest and Corrie viewers recently saw Paul’s ashes shot up into space. But in an unexpected twist, Paul was seen returning in an emotional confrontation with his despairing husband.

Billy has been struggling with his grief since losing his soulmate, which has seen him turn to alcohol. He also made a romantic pass at his ex-boyfriend Todd Grimshaw on the day of Paul’s funeral having hit the bottle and more recently, Billy was tricked by one of Paul’s former friends, who stole a box containing some of Paul’s ashes and Summer’s laptop while he was left alone in the flat.

But things reached a dramatic head last week when Paul’s mum Bernie organised a special screening event of Paul’s ashes release at the Rovers Return. Billy had been drinking ahead of the event and continued to drink heavily during the gathering which led to him confessing that he tried to kiss Todd.

After storming out of the pub, Billy drank behind the factory and began to hallucinate. As he struggled to face the cold night, Paul was heard encouraging Billy to wake up and turn things back around. Soon after the emotional scenes, Bernie found Billy having been visited by Paul in her dream.

Following his emotional return, Peter took to Instagram with a picture of himself, Daniel and Jane Hazlegrove, who plays Bernie, taken following filming of the latest scenes and said: “It was so lovely to be back on the cobbles of Coronation Street one FINAL time! That brings my total episodes of Corrie to a neat 600! It’s been the time of my life! Love you, @jane_hazlegrove & @danielbrocklebank #Paul #Bernie #Billy #Corrie #CoronationStreet.”

Daniel also shared a picture of the trio, as well as a selfie of himself and Jane taken as they filmed emotional scenes in which they seemingly accepted Paul’s death, and said: “A couple of behind the scenes shots from last nights episode. Our last goodbye to Paul and the wonderful @peterash_85.” Peter had the last word as he sweetly added: “Was great to be back with my favourites!”
