Coronation Street’s Chesney Brown star addresses soap future with three-words after Dancing on Ice win

Actor Sam Aston made the comments after he was crowned the champion of this year’s run of the ITV skating competition

Coronation Street star Sam Aston has given a clear update on his future in Weatherfield as he gave his first interview since winning Dancing on Ice.

The actor was crowned the champion of this year’s run of the ITV skating competition alongside his professional skating partner Molly Lanagham.

During Sunday night’s (March 9) final, all three finalists were awarded full marks from the judges following their showcase routines, which had been choreographed by former Olympic figure skaters Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean.

Sam, who is famed for playing Chesney Brown in ITV’s Corrie, and wildlife presenter Michaela Strachan, who was the runner-up, both performed Torvill and Dean’s famous gold-medal winning Bolero routine.

It came after former footballer Anton Ferdinand and his skating partner Annette Dytrt were voted out in third place after the public vote was briefly paused during the final.

As the winner was announced, Sam appeared visibly shocked as they emerged victorious. Speaking to hosts Holly Willoughby and Stephen Mulhern just after his win was announced, he said: “I’ve literally got no words!”

Speaking to Lorraine Kelly on her self-titled ITV show on Monday morning (March 10), Sam admitted he was surprised by his win after she noted his ‘shock’. The soap star said:” I think I was! It’s just so overwhelming and there’s obviously a lot going on so it’s hard to take it all in. It’s been such a journey…”

He also shared: “I just said right from the get go I’ll put my all into it and I’ll leave with no regrets and you know whatever happens and I did I tried my best.”

Lorraine also spoke about the work Sam had not only been putting into his skating but also his family and work life on the cobbles. “You’re still doing your day job so a lot of travelling and a lot of juggling going on?” she said.

Sam agreed: “Yeah a lot of up and down the motorway,” before confirming he would be returning to his usual soap role. He added: “Yeah going back to Corrie. But I love Corrie and Corrie is where my heart is… So yeah I’m going back.”
