Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney has teased there could be trouble ahead for her character as fans have witnessed her spiking Ken Barlow.
There’s speculation that there might be a Weatherfield departure in store for Cassie Plummer, played by the talented Claire Sweeney.
ITV fans have watched Cassie dedicate her time to caring for the beloved Ken Barlow (Bill Roache), especially after his unfortunate mishap resulting in a fractured pelvis.
However, the plot thickened recently when Ken chose to dismiss Cassie and despite her seemingly composed acceptance, all was not as it appeared.
The tables turned quite drastically when while preparing to assist Ken with his CV, Cassie secretively crushed a tablet into his tea along with administering his regular medication.
Following a dramatic escalation on Wednesday evening, viewer saw Ken being hurriedly taken to the hospital. In a subsequent scene, he offers Cassie her job back, oblivious to her deceitful actions, reports Plymouth Live.
But Cassie’s deviousness could be catching up with her, hinted Claire Sweeney while discussing her character’s storyline.
During an appearance on Good Morning Britain’s, the actress shared insights with presenters Kate Garraway and Paul Brand about a chat she had with Sue Crawford on justifying Cassie’s behaviour.
Caught off guard when reminded that spiking is indeed a criminal act that could lead to jail time, Claire Sweeney was interrogated by Kate as the ITV host asked: “Oh god, hang on, does that mean you might be going to jail?”
To this, the actress gave a mysterious response, simply stating: “Who knows…”
The GMB star playfully called Claire a tease, but the actress was quick to set the record straight, insisting she’s keen on remaining part of the soap and describing herself as an avid viewer.
However, Claire did hint that her character’s current plot is far from over, remarking: “What’s funny about Cass is that people are just starting to like her. She had all the flirtations with Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) and suddenly… This is what I said to Kate, our producer, and she said, ‘She can’t help herself’.
“Everything is about survival with Cassie, and this is about surviving and keeping her job, and she also really likes Steve as well. So, it’s not the end it’s going to go on for a while.”
In conversation with the hosts, Claire also spoke fondly of her on-screen son Alan Halsall, who’s participating in I’m A Celeb.

She expressed affection for Alan: “Isn’t he wonderful? I know Maureen Lipman came on here and she said he’ll start off quietly just watch and observe and then he’ll come forward.
“That’s what he’ll do, he’s brilliant Alan, he’s such a funny guy. He’s smart, he’s sensitive, he’s a really brilliant personality.”
Regarding Alan’s current quiet presence on the show, Claire responded: “In the first episode he wasn’t quiet because he had the big trial with Tulisa and he really shone in that didn’t he?
“He’s sitting back at the moment. I think he will, he needs more airtime!”
Good Morning Britain aires weekdays on ITV from 6am.
