Stars of the ITV soap have shared messages of support after Sam Aston was crowned the champion of this year’s Dancing on Ice

A number of Coronation Street stars have shared messages of support after Sam Aston was crowned the champion of this year’s Dancing on Ice.

During Sunday night’s (March 9) final, all three finalists were awarded full marks from the judges following their showcase routines, which had been choreographed by former Olympic figure skaters Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean.

Chris, 66, said he was “really proud” of Sam after he and Molly impressed the judges following their showcase routine to The Pink Panther Theme.

“I mean tonight, everything came together. Your skating skills are always on show, but you had to have timing and acting… I’m really proud of you,” he said. The actor was praised once more for his performance to Maurice Ravel’s Bolero, which Torvill, 67, said was “brilliant”.

Sam, who is famed for playing Chesney Brown in ITV’s Corrie, and wildlife presenter Michaela Strachan, who was the runner-up, both performed Torvill and Dean’s famous gold-medal winning Bolero routine after former footballer Anton Ferdinand and his skating partner Annette Dytrt were voted out.

But Sam appeared visibly shocked as they emerged victorious. Speaking to hosts Holly Willoughby and Stephen Mulhern just after his win was announced, he said: “I’ve literally got no words!”

Just moments before, the soap star reflected that it had been “such a journey” for himself and his professional partner. He said: “It’s just been such a journey, and a mad one. And was always Molly’s dream to be on this show since watching it as a young girl…”

And Sam’s Corrie co-stars were quick to celebrate his win. Tony Maudsley wrote on X: “HE ONLY WENT AND WON IT!!!! Massive congratulations to our boy Sam! The Corrie Actors WhatsApp group is on FIRE tonight. We’re all so proud of him! Couldn’t happen to a nicer bloke!! BRAVO SAM!! #DancingOnIce #Winner #ChezTheChamp.”

Andy Whyment shared a video of his TV screen as Sam’s winning moment was announced and said: “Absolutely buzzing for you @samaston93.” Jane Danson commented: “Thanks for putting this on Andy – my tv crashed just before the result – I nearly cried ! Congratulations to our @samaston93 smashed it.” Lisa George added: “Well done @samaston93 so well deserved.”
