Rob Mallard’s real-life partner has revealed he made his debut in the iconic programme as he thanked the actor for his support
Coronation Street star Rob Mallard’s real-life partner has revealed he made his debut in the iconic programme as he thanked the actor for his support.
As fans know, Rob first arrived on-screen in the ITV soap as Daniel Osbourne, the son of street stalwart Ken Barlow and uncle of serial love rat Adam Barlow back in 2016, making him the third actor to take on the role.
As for Rob’s off-screen love life, he publicly came out as gay during an interview with Gay Times back in 2017 but he told his family at the age of 17 and “never planned to keep [his sexuality] quiet.”
Back in June 2023, the soap star appeared to go public with his new partner Matthew Martin as he took to Instagram to share a snap of himself all suited and booted for this year’s British Soap Awards.
He looked dapper as he attended the star-studded bash in his three-piece navy attire but added a cool edge with a pair of dark sunglasses as he posed outside with his equally-dapper guest. “British soap awards 2023 with @mattmarcm,” he typed alongside the post with a red heart.
And now Matthew has joined Rob on the cobbles. During Wednesday night’s (February 26) trip to Weatherfield, he was seen playing a police officer who came to arrest Cassie Plummer after Ken Barlow suffered a heart attack and revealed she had been drugging him with antihistamines to make him drowsy.
Taking to Instagram after the episode, Matthew shared a picture of himself and Rob on the Corrie set as well as a smiling selfie of him in the Weatherfield Police uniform.

Alongside the post, he wrote: “Ey mam! I’m on the telly box! Quite a surreal time being pulled in SUPER last minute to step in as a Policeman to arrest Cassie Plummer / @claire.sweeney.
“All thanks to @mossy737 for giving me the opportunity to work on the iconic show that is @coronationstreet and of course my lad @rob.mallard for being the biggest support and showing me the ropes.”
Corrie’s Lauren Bolton actress Cait Fitton was quick to respond to the post as she commented: “There he is @mattmarcm,” while Claire Sweeney, who plays Cassie, shared the post to her own Instagram Story and said: “How fabulous you were @mattmatcm.”
His followers were also quick to show support. @leesimon81 said: “Bring you boyfriend to work day! Lol…ahhhh amazing.” @charlotte_swinny commented: “We need more cornish people on our tellys!! Well done!”
@jessicacasby wrote: “Amazing well done.” @lau_lamont replied: “Well done Matt ! Hopefully start of it all to come.” @adrianjames2308 posted: “Looking fabulous guys …” @nikitaawhite added: “Love this. Well done Matt.”
