Coronation Street star Vicky Binns played Molly Dobbs in the ITV soap until her death in the 50th anniversary special, but has a very different career now
Vicky Binns, known for her role as Molly Dobbs in Coronation Street, has taken a different career path since leaving the Cobbles.
The actress, who played Tyrone Dobbs’ wife for five years before her character’s tragic death in the 50th anniversary episode, continued acting until theatre shows were halted due to the pandemic.
She had hoped to appear in a theatre production in 2020, but lockdown measures prevented this. Vicky then transitioned into primary school teaching during the pandemic.
Speaking to Scarborough News, she said: “I have been an actress from a young age, playing regular roles in Emmerdale and Coronation Street (I’m yet to get that offer from EastEnders ). I’ve also worked extensively in theatre, but since lockdown I was teaching in primary schools, where I was told by a five-year-old that I looked better with my mask on! Keen to get back into the gentler world of show business, I jumped at the chance to come back to the theatre.”

Reflecting on her departure from Coronation Street, Vicky described it as “explosive”, praising the soap for allowing her to leave “on such a high”.
Upon the announcement of her departure, she expressed: “It’s been a joy to be involved in such a fantastic storyline and it is only right that it has the explosive ending viewers are waiting for. I am very excited about playing out the rest of this plot and indeed about what the future holds. I’ve had an amazing time in the show and feel it’s right to leave on such a high.”

Alan Halsall, at the time of her exit, confessed he was “very sad” to see Vicky go, reports the Mirror.
“I feel very sad actually. This is how it is in Coronation Street. Characters come in. They are loved by millions and they do leave as well. It will be a tough time for Tyrone – he lost his father and he’ll be losing his wife as well. But for me personally as an actor, I’ve spent five years working with Vicky, I will miss her an awful lot but I know she’ll go on and do great things anyway,” he stated.
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday on ITV at 8pm
