Coronation Street star says ‘that’s a wrap’ in behind-the-scenes update amid dramatic storyline

Coronation Street’s Channique Sterling-Brown has taken to social media to share a behind-the-scenes update as her character Dee Dee Bailey is set for revenge on Joel Deering

Coronation Street’s Channique Sterling-Brown, who plays Dee Dee Bailey, has shared an exciting update from behind the scenes of the soap, announcing “that’s a wrap.” Dee Dee’s journey on the cobbles has been anything but smooth of late, as she found herself tangled up in Joel Deering’s reign of terror. She was all set to marry the Weatherfield baddie until she discovered his dark secrets. Joel, portrayed by Calum Lill, had been abusing Lauren Bolton, forcing her to leave the cobbles.

Joel’s actions have only worsened since Lauren’s return, especially after he found out she was carrying his child. It seemed like things were about to crumble for Joel when Dee Dee pieced together the horrifying truth about her on-screen fiance. However, Dee Dee and DS Swain were left disappointed when Joel handed himself into the police, only to be released due to insufficient evidence. Spoilers suggest that the pair will join forces, hinting at another twist before Joel finally faces the consequences of his actions, reports the Liverpool Echo.

A new promo hinted: “As Dee-Dee and DS Swain come together to try and take Joel Deering down for his attack and abuse of Lauren Bolton it looks like Joel has other ideas as he plots to escape his crimes. But as Joel calculates, seemingly so sure of himself, will a heartbroken Dee-Dee find the strength to bring him to justice?”

Channique Sterling-Brown has been teasing fans with glimpses of her life off-screen via Instagram. She recently excited followers with news that she’s been filming night scenes, posting an early morning picture in her car with the caption: “That’s a wrap.” It’s still up in the air whether these late-night shoots will set the stage for her character’s revenge on Joel, but Calum also hinted at his involvement in the new storyline.

The actor, who became part of the cast last year, had a double celebration during the night shoot as it coincided with his birthday. He posted a night time photo of Weatherfield with the message: “Birthday B2B night shoot pt 1. Cheers Cozzar.”

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo at the recent Radio Times Soap Awards, Channique shared her thoughts on how her character plans to deal with Joel.

She believes her character will stay true to her Christian beliefs and pursue justice through legal means rather than taking matters into her own hands. She said: “She’s got a strong moral compass as a Christian and cares about justice. Ultimately, she believes in justice and finding peace for his victims. She’s not one to take the law into her own hands, but you never know.”

Caitlyn Fitton, who brings Lauren to life on Coronation Street, is yearning for a conclusion that stays true to the show’s essence. She said: “All of us empowering women on the show should just sort him out. We should all bring him down. I think people would love that. Empowering people is what Coronation Street is about.”
