Coronation Street star Sally Ann Matthews declares ‘sad day’ as she shuts down ‘exit’ rumours

The actress, who is best known for playing Jenny Connor in the ITV soap, worried some with her social media updates

Coronation Street star Sally Ann Matthews has told fans it was a ‘sad day’ on the show’s Trafford-based set as it seems an exit has officially taken place.

The actress, who is best known for playing Jenny Connor – nee Bradley – in the ITV soap, worried some when she took to X, formerly know as Twitter, with a message that read: “Yep. I’m defo in denial.”

Fans were quick to respond and then on Wednesday (February 26), she deleted her first tweet and posted another which said: “Thankfully most of you got it!!”

It appears Sal was referring to the exit of her co-star Charlotte Jordan, who fans know will seen be bowing out of Weatherfield after four years of playing Daisy Midgeley.

The actress confirmed the news of her exit back in January and said in a statement at the time: “My time at Coronation Street is something I’ll always cherish.

“After a brilliant four years for Daisy, it’s time for me to start a new chapter and explore other opportunities. It’s been a privilege to be part of a wonderful institution with even more wonderful colleagues who have taught me so much.”

Responding to one fan, Sal said it had been a “sad day” and referred to “ChaCha”, her nickname for Charlotte, when replying to another. When others expressed their sadness over the exit, the soap star encouragingly replied: “Awwww, you’re going to see her being brilliant in LOTS of other things though.”

But she also took her time on the social media platform to shut down rumours of her own departure from Corrie. It came after a fan tweeted: “JENNY CONNOR LEAVING CORRIE WTF IS GOING ON WITH THIS SHOW @SallyAnMatthews #Corrie.” But she replied back: “Says who?????”

The posts came as fellow Corrie star Lucy Fallon shared a black and white photo of herself and Charlotte, with the pair having reunited while Lucy’s on maternity leave following the birth of her second child..

They were seen in a close embrace with their arms around one another as they looked towards the camera and smiled. Captioning the post, the new mum-of-two penned: “a love letter 2 @charliejordanxo,” and fans were quick to respond, with some thinking it may have been Charlotte’s leaving party.
