Coronation Street star rushed to hospital needing surgery after ‘nearly losing a finger’

A Corriet star has been hospitalised after an infection left her in agony – she shared her frustration over the “torture” of being in A&E as she worried about losing her finger

Coronation Street’s Tracie Bennett has been hospitalised, after a severe infection nearly led to her losing a finger. The soap star, known for her role as Sharon Gaskell, took to social media to slam the NHS service, describing her A&E experience as staff “sitting around” while she suffered in pain. She underwent an emergency operation on her swollen index finger after antibiotics failed to treat the infection. Sharing her ordeal, Tracie tweeted: “Let’s count the hours from now of how long I’ll be in A&E with a seriously infected finger. Been on antibiotics since Monday but they haven’t worked. Ouch. Haven’t slept properly. Hoping it’s not long. Torture. Place your bets.”

She continued her updates, expressing frustration over delays and procedures, saying: “Being seen. Finally. All a nightmare. An x-ray and now they can’t even take blood cos they don’t know how or what they’re doing? Why? Just lance it? Hours of Agony.” Tracie also shared: “So, they’re trying yet again to take my blood. Then sending me home with mega tablets and have to come back tomorrow to sign forms, natch, then a hand surgeon is going to deal with it all.”

“Going into hand surgery in 30 mins. Got my sense of humour back, thanks to the hilarious trolls and the arrow drawn on my hand! Like it’s not obvs what is wrong?” After the procedure, she updated her fans: “Thanks so much for asking, everyone.”

The 60 year old originally played the role from 1982 to 1984, and then returned to the role in 1999 before leaving the cobbles once more until 2021.
