Actor Paddy Bever joined the ITV soap back in 2021 as part of a recasting of the character Max Turner
Coronation Street star Paddy Bever has officially Weatherfield as his final scenes aired as Max Turner. The actor joined the ITV soap back in 2021 as part of a recasting of the character Max Turner.
As fans know, Max was the son of the late Kylie Platt and stepson of her husband, David Platt. It was Harry McDermott who played the role from 2010 but he left to continue with his acting studies and explore other opportunities and Paddy took over the role in 2021.
And it’s been quite the few years for the character, with his time on the cobbles ending behind bars. It was revealed in February that he was for starting the fire that saw the Platts’ beloved family home destroyed, thinking it’d help his family be safe from gangster Harvey Gaskell.
In dramatic scenes, a rag soaked in petrol was posted through the house’s front door, along with some lit matches. The family was soon alerted to the fire by their neighbours as it quickly took hold. With David not around and fearing Lily was in the house, Shona Platt and Max headed inside with Nick Tilsley, who was left rescuing an unconscious Toyah Habee after she had been attacked by Abi Webster.
But Shona and Max were quickly left trapped inside the empty house and while Shona managed to escape, with her horrified husband David waiting on the other side, Max was left stuck as the house exploded. He was later pulled from the burning property and was rushed to hospital where he was placed in a coma.
Luckily, the teen survived but once awake, Max soon faced Shona’s wrath as she discovered it was him who set their home alight as he attempted to help David get the money he owes Harvey in a failed insurance job.
The police soon discovered the truth and during Monday’s (March 3) episode of Corrie. Max was in court to receive his sentence. The judge took into account Max’s apparent remorse and guilty plea but with that alongside his premeditated actions and suspended sentence didn’t bode well for the teen.
Summing up the case, the judge told the defendant: “I cannot ignore the aggravating factors in this case. The planning involved, the use of an accelerant, the fact that the fire could have easily spread to neighbouring properties.

“And by far the most serious factor, multiple people were endangered. I also note that you were subject to a suspended sentence order at the time. After credit for your guilty plea, the sentence I arrive at is six and a half years in prison.”
He was left shocked by the outcome and called out to David, who was in the public gallery, for support. Plans were made to transfer Max to a prison in County Durham the following day with his loved ones desperate to keep him safe amid the ongoing threats from dangerous Harvey.
Speaking in January about his exit, Paddy said: “After much reflection and in an incredibly difficult decision, I have chosen to step away from Max and Coronation Street to explore new opportunities. I have been surrounded by such kindness and support every step of the way.
“I’m eternally grateful for the chance to bring Max’s story to life and it’s been a great privilege to contribute to the legacy of such a well-loved and iconic show. This chapter has been unforgettable and while I look forward to what lies ahead, I will treasure these memories.”
