Fans know that the beloved soap family haven’t been having the best of times lately
Coronation Street star Julia Goulding has admitted things ‘get worse’ for the Platts with ‘really shocking’ scenes ahead. Fans know that the beloved soap family haven’t been having the best of times lately.
David Platt has been, and continues to be, in the bad books of notorious gangster Harvey Gaskell. It’s become clear in recent weeks that he is being sought out by Harvey’s thugs after taking money which belonged to him, after it was offered to David’s sister Sarah Platt by Harvey’s brother Damon Hay.
He truly realised what was going on when he was confronted by Radcliffe brothers Matty and Logan, who are now behind bars for the brutal murder of their own sibling, Mason.
But David’s troubles were far from over, and weeks after waving goodbye to his mother, Gail, David, the dog was run over and left for dead before being found by neighbour Michael Bailey, while Lily Platt was also handed a note by a stranger, which mentioned the stolen money. David’s wife was also kidnapped, making it very much seem like the family is being specifically targeted.
Then, earlier this month in the ITV soap, a terrifying blaze cut through the family’s beloved home, destroying not only bricks and mortar but also the lives of David and his wife Shona’s family and those close to them.
After believing Harvey was behind the attack, it was Shona who discovered it was actually Max Turner. The teen was left fighting for his life after becoming trapped in the home as it was alight before he had to admit he started the fire in a bodged insurance job to help the family get the money they needed to get Harvey off their back once and for all.

But in upcoming scenes, David is set to get even more desperate as he gets on the wrong side of former prison mate Andy Garland. Corrie fans will see David agree to take on more dodgy jobs for Andy but it’s hinted he may have set him up and he later gets a beating.
Next week, a flash forward will see medics in the hospital doing everything they can to save David’s life after a horror hit and run on the street which also sees Daisy Midgeley knocked to the ground, pregnant with her unborn baby.
Speaking about the scenes and the moment Shona sees David hit by the car, Julia told the Manchester Evening News: “It’s odd because he’s been really shifty and she’s quite suspicious and then as she’s driving down the street, she sees David standing in the middle of the road.

“And he is standing in the middle of the road, he’s not crossing like Daisy does. She’s obviously collateral damage in it all. Shona stops the car and gets out and is thinking, ‘What is he doing?’ and them bang – the car runs him over.”
She went on: “It was fantastic to watch the stunt. The stunt people are just incredible. It was really shocking, actually. You feel quite nervous before you see it happen.” Julia added: “How can things get any worse? And they do!”
Julia was also asked about being involved in an action-packed start to the year for her fictional family. She said: “We had a fantastic gang, all the actors and the crew. You just get on with it, you have a laugh. You’re switching from really serious stuff and then when the cameras aren’t rolling, you’re side-splitting laughing.
“You have to really when you have really shocking, serious scenes to film.” She added: “But we had a great few days… Doing any kind of stunt, I’d be more than happy to do it if they let us.”
