The actor has officially joined the ITV soap as Mick Michaelis
Coronation Street star Joe Layton has addressed the twist shocking viewers about his new character on the cobbles. The actor has officially joined the ITV soap as Mick Michaelis.
Mick and his wife Lou, played by Farrel Hegarty, are part of a new family set to shake-up the cobbles as they’ve been described as ‘nightmare neighbours’ who are willing to make life hell for anyone who dares to cross them.
Mick first appeared in Weatherfield during Friday night’s (February 14) episode of the ITV soap and come after Lou made her first appearance earlier in the week.
During Lou’s first appearance on the Street, she didn’t hold back as she was seen giving Aadi Alahan grief over a purchase in the shop. She was also seen immediately sparking up a friendship with Gemma, recognising each other from Bessie Street School, where Gemma’s quads and Lou’s two young daughters attend, before sharing a drink in the Rovers Return.
Mick has now also appeared in Weatherfield for the first time. Chesney returned home with some Valentine’s cakes for Gemma and told her that he’s convinced he spotted the silver van again. Gemma then was heard telling Chesney that Lou and her husband Mick are moving into Mawdsley Street and she’s arranged for them to meet for a drink later.
But fans have been shocked to realise Mick’s true identity – the man with the silver van who has been harassing Chesney for months, and he’s none the wiser.
Speaking about the twist, Joe said: “I think the audience will be shocked to realise that it’s Mick who was harassing Chesney all this time because it’s been drip fed out and from what I’ve seen, no one knew what was happening with the man with the silver van.

“It’s been great to have that kind of depth to play with and it’s been fun. Working with Sam and Dolly-Rose has been amazing, like I said, everyone at Corrie is so welcoming and the Winter-Browns are an iconic family!”
Joe also shared his thoughts on his character when he first found out about him. “I really enjoy playing what people would refer to as a baddie or a villain, because for me the most interesting thing is all how we move past the first initial judgment of them, especially when you’re going to be playing them,” he said.
“It’s really interesting because when you’re playing a character, a part of you has got to love them and empathize with them and understand them. I always think ‘how do I get into this character's shoes and why is it the way he is and why does he do the things that he does?’ So I always find it really rewarding and a real kind of privilege to any character, but especially the psychologically complex characters.”
