Coronation Street star in ‘two minds’ as she calls for Leanne to return to ‘full Battersby’

It comes as viewers of the ITV soap will see Amy Barlow get more involved with The Institute

Coronation Street star Elle Mulvaney has shared her thoughts on the downfall of Rown Cunliffe as her character Amy Barlow gets more involved with The Institute.

As viewers of the ITV soap know, the new character has already charmed Leanne Battersby and only encouraged her investment in the group as her mentor.

Leanne met Rown back in March when she accompanied Simon Barlow to one of his seminars at the Chariot Square Hotel. Leanne was taken aback when the group mentor approached her and offered her some unsolicited advice as she dealt with Simon’s drink-driving and her partner Nick Tilsley’s reaction.

Since then, Leanne has become further involved in The Institute and it seems to be to the detriment of her relationship with Nick as well as her sister Toyah Habeeb who is currently facing a cancer diagnosis.

Leanne has also found herself being promoted through the ranks of the Institute, leading her further under Rowan’s spell. And she’s also been in recruitment mode, encouraging Amy to attend the group’s seminars and also invest her inheritance from Deidre Barlow.

In upcoming scenes, Amy will tell an excited Leanne she’s looking to invest her inheritance in the new resource centre but she’ll need sign-off from her grandad Ken Barlow. In the hospital, the consultant approaches Nick with news and soon after, Nick calls Leanne, telling her that Toyah has suffered complications and she needs to get there as soon as possible.

Later, Rowan tells Leanne about Amy’s decision. When Leanne asserts that she hasn’t time to discuss it as she’s off to visit Toyah, Rowan worries that he’s losing his grip on her. As Leanne reunites with her sister, Nick confides in Toyah that he loves her and plans to break the news to Leanne.

As Corrie fans now fear for Amy, actress Elle has called for Leanne to be the one to bring down Rowan once and for all. Speaking to Inside Soap the soap star was asked if she’d like her character to be the one to take Rowan down.

“I’m in two minds about that,” she admitted. “Part of me thinks, yeah, have Amy do it. But then I’d love to see Leanne get her own back — I’d love to see her go full Battersby and have Rowan for it!”

Speaking about the direction of the storyline more generally, she added: “The pressure really mounts on Amy to invest in The Institute, but we also start to see some more of that weirdness coming out. Viewers will see more of what goes on behind the scenes…”
