“It is bringing back all the feelings of inadequacy and betrayal.”
Coronation Street star Jennie McAlpine has opened up about Fiz Dobbs’ fears following Alina Pop’s return, saying Fiz has been left questioning if she’s “enough” for Tyrone.
Viewers will know that Alina returned to Weatherfield last month with Tyrone’s young son Dorin, to give evidence in court against the leader of a human trafficking group.
Alina and Tyrone previously had an affair that ended Fiz and Tyrone’s nine-year relationship. Fiz and Tyrone eventually got back together after Alina exited the soap.
Discussing how Fiz feels about Alina’s arrival, McAlpine said: “The worst thing for her is that it’s brought all those emotions she thought they’d buried back again. Fiz’s relationship with Tyrone was back on track – everything was normal.
She continued: “Yes, there was chaos. Hope was possibly kicking off at any moment. But they had normal family life, and she was loving it. They are finally all together under one roof as a family after Fiz working away, then all of a sudden this is thrown into the mix. No one wants to have a constant reminder of a partner’s infidelity.
Asked if Fiz is worried about losing Tyrone to Alina, McAlpine said: “She questions whether she’s enough for Tyrone and whether their family is enough for him, or whether he’ll want something else now he has a son.”
In scenes set to air next week, Tyrone comes clean to Fiz after lying about spending money on a legal consultation with Adam Barlow over his rights to his son. Fiz is left feeling confused after finding out that Tyrone wants Alina and Dorin to move to Weatherfield.
McAlpine said of the drama: “It is bringing back all the feelings of inadequacy and betrayal that she had when the affair happened.
“When Alina was not in the picture, she had managed to move on and believe Tyrone would be loyal, but you can’t blame her for worrying now there is a child bringing Alina and Tyrone potentially closer.”
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
