Coronation Street’s Sue Cleaver declares her ‘body doesn’t define her’ following her incredible three stone weight loss.
The actress, who is best known to Corrie fans for her role as Eileen Grimshaw, revealed that her weight loss actually came about after cutting out alcohol and her stint in the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! jungle.
However, the soap star, 61, admitted she was learning to deal with’negative thoughts’ about her appearance after embracing a healthier lifestyle.
‘My body is now who I am. My body will change, my size will go up and down and I don’t define myself or get involved in any of those conversations around it,’ she told Bella.
During a previous episode of Loose Women, Sue said she has been treated differently while at different weights.
‘My weight has been up down all over the place and most of it was helped by red wine,’ she told the ITV panel.
‘At the minute I am a lot thinner but I’ve been ill this year and for some reason my metabolism seems to have changed and because I’m not drinking. But I have been the other way and I might go back the other way.’
She continued: ‘What I hate about it is the shame that is attached to being a bigger person. The judgments made, quite often from other women. I find it really hard to take. We’re not stupid… don’t treat us like we are idiots.’
Sue’s character Eileen has been absent from screens since June after the actress took an extended break from the ITV soap to star as Mother Superior in a touring production of Sister Act.
Her temporary exit came as Eileen received horrifying news about son Jason Grimshaw (Ryan Thomas) after he was injured in a motorbike accident and she jetted off to look after him.
Sue’s appearance in Sister Act marked her first stage role in 30 years.
She has since finished in the show and has been replaced by former Corrie co-star Wendi Peters, better known as Cilla Battersby.
The actress, who joined the cast of Corrie in 2000, has also become a regular on the Loose Women panel.
