David and Shona Platt will see Number 8 Coronation Street up in flames with several people feared to be inside
It’s been the Platt family’s beloved family home for years, but in upcoming Coronation Street scenes, No.8 will be ripped apart by a huge fire, leaving lives at risk.
Explosive new pictures show the extent of what viewers of the ITV soap will witness when the blaze burns through the home, destroying not only bricks and mortar but also the lives of David and Shona’s family, and those close to them.
Those watching will be left to wonder who the mysterious hooded figure we see pushing a petrol soaked rag through the letterbox of No. 8 is. And when the fire is proven to be arson some of the street’s best known residents start to feel the heat and find themselves forced to try and convince the police of their innocence.
The action starts next Monday, February 3, with everyone gathering at the Bistro for Sarah Platts birthday. Bored at the adult party Hope and Ruby Dobbs, Lily Platt and Sam Blakeman sneak into No.8 and start to live stream a séance.
Spotting the live stream and seeing matches on the video, Toyah Habeeb races over to the house and throws the kids out. Meanwhile, Abi Webster is on the warpath having realised Toyah shopped her to social services and seeing her at number 8 heads inside to confront her.
Caught up in a PTSD episode, she lashes out at Toyah knocking her unconscious before fleeing the house. Did she come back and start the fire to cover up the attack on Toyah?
With no sign of Toyah or the kids it becomes evident that there may be people trapped inside. As Nick, Shona and Max Turner head into the inferno, will they all make it out alive as a huge explosion rocks the street?
Also creeping around the cobbles is a drunken Leanne Battersby, feeling lonely and angry at the world. Is she responsible for the devastating inferno?
Or could David be to blame for the blaze? His feud with gang lord Harvey has ramped up a gear in recent weeks, with Shona already having been kidnapped as a warning. Is Harvey’s gang behind the arson or has David gone to extreme lengths to get the money from the house insurance to repay Harvey the money he stole?
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, producer Kate Brooks recently confirmed that it “goes to pot” for the iconic soap family following the matriarch’s exit, as she explained: “David has stolen a big old bag of cash from Harvey, which was the wrong move. He’s done it for the house and the family, but this escalates massively.
“The story we’re telling is one of a very desperate David, trying to protect his family and keep Harvey and his goons at bay. He is struggling to navigate that and to pay back his big debt. He’s struggling to protect his family. It all comes to a massive head in early February, when we play a massive stunt that has huge consequences for David.
“So, in trying to protect everyone and do the right thing, he ends up losing quite a few things that he holds dear. So, it’s a real journey for David. He’s well-intentioned, but he fails, messes up and makes mistakes, and there’s massive consequences not only for his own family, but for the wider community as well. Somebody does get embroiled in David’s downfall, which is quite unexpected. “
Coronation Street airs on ITV at 8pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday and on ITVX from 7am
