The evil solicitor will come back to haunt Dee-Deein the new year as her life is ‘upended’ in the ITV soap
Coronation Street fans may think that Joel Deering was left behind in 2024. However, it’s been revealed that he’ll come back to haunt Dee-Dee Bailey in the new year as her life is ‘upended’.
As fans of the ITV soap know, Weatherfield’s biggest-ever whodunnit was seen coming to a dramatic end back in November as Joel’s killer was revealed – and it was a joint effort to off the dastardly solicitor.
Joel, played by Calum Lill, arrived onto the cobbles in September 2023 as a charming solicitor who Dee-Dee soon fell head over heels in love with. But under his smooth exterior Joel was hiding a dark secret – a penchant for younger, underprivileged girls, linking him to a troubled Lauren Bolton.
When Lauren went missing in February 2024, it was later revealed that Joel was responsible, having abused his position as her duty solicitor, to subject her to a torrent of both physical and verbal abuse which led to her fleeing the street fearing for her life.
Joel had left Lauren for dead following a vicious attack and while Roy Cropper was accused of the crime, Joel did everything possible to cover his tracks. It was Joel’s fiancée Dee-Dee who finally uncovered the horrific truth, however, without hard evidence the police were forced to let him walk free.
Having drugged Lauren in an attempt to abort his own son, Joel became public enemy number one and as Dee-Dee, Lauren and DS Lisa Swain all rallied to bring him down it was no surprise when Joel disappeared. But when his body was found following an apparent suicide, the police soon discovered that someone had in fact murdered Joel.
It was confirmed he’d been killed with a heavy weapon before entering the water and several Weatherfield residents were put in the frame – Dee-Dee, her father Ed, her uncle Ronnie, Mason Radcliffe, Lisa, Carla Connor, DC Kit Green and finally Max Turner and Lauren Bolton.
It was then revealed that in an eventful night for Joel, after Ronnie and Edwent after him with a crowbar, he was attacked by scorned ex Dee-Dee, threatened by Kit and pushed into the river by Max. But not before Lauren had delivered the killer blow amidst their train track confrontation.
But as Corrie fans also know, Dee-Dee has since discovered she’s pregnant with Joel’s third child. When asked at a press event whether there are any romances ahead in Weatherfield in 2025, producer Kate Brooks teased: “Alya Nazir and Adam Barlow are definitely a slow burn. I think they’re really interesting to have in the solicitor’s office…”
It is then when she commented: “We obviously have Dee-Dee as well in 2025. Just when you thought the Joel story had come to an end, there is another chapter that happens that is going to completely upend Dee-Dee’s life.”
Kate added: “There are a couple of infidelities here and there in 2025, but ultimately the relationships of the Platts, Carla and Lisa, these are all relationships that are going to be at the forefront of the show. There might be a new man for Todd coming… He’s been single for donkey’s years, and he’s fantastic.
“The Grimshaws are another big clan I am eager to explore. So, there might be a new man coming for Todd, which will come with its own tests and trials”
