After Coronation Street boss Kate Brooks revealed David Platt’s downfall was on the cards leading to a ‘massive stunt’, a new scene on the ITV soap hinted who would be behind it
David Platt is facing a deadly downfall on Coronation Street, and now a new scene may give away who instigates it.
After his recent lies, betrayals and him stealing a load of money from a criminal, his comeuppance is about to be served. Early 2025 will see David caught out in the worst way possible, leading to him possibly losing “things he holds dear”.
It leads to a dramatic stunt with lives on the line, with reports a shocking fire will tear through his family’s home. Now his feud with another resident seems to be the catalyst for the deadly events ahead.
A scene with Kit Green on Monday night appeared to give away he sparks David’s downfall, leading to the events next year. Something he said to baddies Matty and Logan Radcliffe, who work for Harvey Gaskell, may have teased he is the mystery “unexpected” person who sparks David’s downfall, recently teased by Corrie boss Kate Brooks.
Kit and David had two run-ins in the latest episode and things soon escalated, after David drove at him at high speed before vandalising his car. David wanted revenge after finding out Kit had slept with his wife Shona Platt, and it seems he will continue to target the dodgy detective.
But Kit made a reckless decision in the same episode about David that could have serious consequences. Having previously warned off Matty and Logan telling them to keep away from David and his family, Kit made a dramatic U-turn.

After his row with David, he sought out the thugs and told them to go ahead and take their revenge. He gave them permission to “hunt” David down and get back the money that is owed, vowing he would do nothing to stop them.
Kit’s decision has paved the way for him to be hassled by the criminals once more, who will do whatever it takes to get the money back – the money which David no longer has. So given it’s this trouble he’s in that is tipped to lead to the big stunt next year, has Kit just put David and his family in harm’s way?
Has his permission for the thugs to go after David sparked not only his “downfall”, but the series of events that lead to everything falling part? It would seem Kit is very much behind the mentioned comeuppance, after Kate teased what was ahead in a chat with The Mirror.
She told us: “The story we’re telling is one of a very desperate David, trying to protect his family and keep Harvey and his goons at bay. He is struggling to navigate that, and struggling to pay back this big debt he has. He’s struggling to protect his family. It all comes to a massive head in early February, when we play a massive stunt that has huge consequences for David.
“So, in trying to protect everyone and do the right thing, he ends up losing quite a few things that he holds dear. So, a real journey for David. He’s well-intentioned, but he fails, messes up and makes mistakes, and there’s massive consequences not only for his own family, but for the wider community as well. Somebody does get embroiled in David’s downfall, which is quite unexpected.”
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
