Coronation Street reveals Todd Grimshaw’s new love interest – and actor’s son of famous face

The ITV soap has revealed that love could be on the cards for Todd Grimshaw as a newcomer arrives in Weatherfield

Coronation Street has officially revealed that love could be on the cards for Todd Grimshaw as a newcomer arrives in Weatherfield.

Actor Gareth Pierce joined the ITV soap back in 2020 as the already established character of Todd, the son of Weatherfield stalwart Eileen Grimshaw.

Todd returned to Weatherfield and wasted no time in interfering in his ex Billy Mayhew’s relationship with Paul Foreman, before his lies about Paul, blaming him for a number of events which were actually Todd’s doing, resulted in Billy ending his relationship with Paul.

It was later that the truth about Todd’s meddling was uncovered and by 2023, Summer Spellman’s three dads had put the past behind them and Paul had reconciled with Billy, moving back into 19a Rosamund Street with him and Summer while Todd remained a close friend of both men.

But, following Paul’s tragic death last year, 17 months after he was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), Corrie fans were quick to assume that Billy would find himself back in the arms of Todd. While there was a drunken pass made at Todd by Billy, nothing has developed between the pair.

And this is where Theo Silverton is set to step in. Working close by as a scaffolder, the new character first gets on the wrong side of both Julie Carp and then George Shuttlewroth before Todd Grimsahw helps him to patch things up with the locals.

There’s an instant attraction from Todd but with Theo playing his cards close to his chest, has Todd finally found his Mr Right? Playing Theo is James Cartwright, who is a regular in the world’s longest running soap The Archers and has won a Royal Television Society Award for Best Leading Actor for his performance as Johnny in BBC’s production – Johnny Shakespeare.

He has said of Corrie’s newest character: “I think Theo is a good guy, he comes in with the best of intentions, as most people do, but he may upset some people with his behaviour.”

Giving us a bit of an insight into Theo’s antics, James, who is the son of famous playwright and screenwriter Jim Cartwright, who is famed for his play ROAD and Little Voice, revealed: “I had a line the other day where I said ‘I think I left my trousers in the bedroom’ so make of that what you will.”

James, who will first be seen on-screen on March 25, said on getting the role: “I was very excited, a lot of my memories growing up as a young boy were settling down with my gran after tea, she’d make me a crumpet and we’d sit there and watch Corrie. I feel like it’s a great honour to be a part of something that’s brought joy to people for so long.”
